Solid hardwood downstairs only or engineered hardwood throughout?

We have 2" red oak hardwood floors in most of the downstairs (with some carpet) of our house and carpet throughout the upstairs. We plan to replace the carpeted areas downstairs so the entire downstairs will have hardwood floors and will refinish the existing floors so all is uniform. The carpet upstairs is old and needs to be replaced. Due to budget we can either have solid hardwood downstairs with carpet upstairs or remove existing hardwood and carpet and put engineered hardwood throughout. If we replace the solid hardwood we'd go with a more modern wide plank look. What do you think is best for resale? Solid hardwood downstairs with carpet upstairs OR engineered hardwood throughout?
