Anyone have suggestions on window style for our old 1950s ranch?
Comments (5)I would stay with casements or sliders (I prefer casements) as your windows are wider than they are tall. Because of newer and better materials, what was a three wide unit (last picture) when the home was built can now be done with only two panels so that will give you more of an "open" feeling. Some of the two wide units may also be done in one wide depending on the overall width (e.g. a window 36" would have been two - 18" panels. Now you can have a single window 36" wide). I also agree with eliminating the grids or divided lites unless you feel strongly about them....See More1978 Stucco Home: Exterior Update
Comments (11)The arches become less of an issue once the shutters are removed. The yellow with the dark bronze windows is just not working for your lovely home. And the dark gutters should really be no darker than the roof color. Comments (25)My laptop does weird things to colors, so I can't really tell what color your house is. Maybe my eyes aren't much better. I like a sage green house, and there are so many greens that fit that description. With that you can can have white trim or off white trim. Is that cream or ecru or whatever you call that. (Clearly I am not one of those gals that agonize over the 50 different shades of white, I can't even discern the diff between 'em. When I want white, I like the primer's white white! There are some advantages of age :) As for a door color, you can choose a lighter tint of the sage or a burgundy or lipstick-y pinky-wine or even a pumpkin or a teal. I love a dark glossy green door....See MoreSuggestions for updating exterior of small 1918 house
Comments (15)Thanks everyone for your responses. The current color is Behr’s Gladiator Grey. It is a medium tone greenish grey which explains why some monitors read it as green, others grey. I love the idea to paint the door darker and the above mock-ups really show how dramatic that can be. Lori’s point about proportions is spot on. Regarding the planters, I do like the privacy they offer but I agree they need to be painted or swapped out for something that doesn’t conflict with the style of the house. Also—fresh grass is on the way!...See MoreDale R
