BM white dove walls with SW Pure White?

Is this a bad combination? We have SW pure white for our baseboards, trim, doors etc for our house. The BM dove wing is a tad too dark for our kitchen and living room so we’re looking for something lighter. Would BM White dove be ok?

So I am the least knowledgeable about colors BUT I have tried to learn some of the wisdom shared here, about chroma . (Thank you Lori S). If I understand correctly, in addition to how a color looks to you in your setting--- if the difference in chroma values are .20 or more, they can be compatible.

In this case, BM White Dove Chroma is .58 ( I googled)

0.58

Because it does have a Chroma value of 0.58, you have to be aware of context. For example wall color. If the wall color has at least 0.20 more/less in Chroma, then White Dove will look like a clean, crisp creamy white and unlikely to appear dirty/dingy. This is why you'll find conflicting opinions about White Dove.

SW Pure White is .44

Pure White SW 7005 Hue Family

The pink arrows point to where Pure White SW 7005 fits in among the other colors according to its Value 9.34 rounded to 9.38 and Chroma of 0.44 rounded to 0.25.

So, since the difference is less than .2 my understanding is that they might not be a great match.

Seriously hoping for some experts to chime in to either validate what I suggest, or explain it further.

Salvona nailed it.

The difference in Chroma between Pure White and White Dove is 0.14.

A difference of 0.20 (ish) is a rule of thumb I discovered doing what I do every day.

A difference of 0.14 might be "ish" enough to work.

Just understanding the Chroma 0.20 rule of thumb is helpful because you know what to look for when testing the colors in your space to see if the two colors work together or not.

You should think "they look pretty together" vs. thinking one of the colors looks dirty or dingy.

Hi! For all of you that used snowfall white as a kitchen cabinet colour, what is your flooring material? I’ve used snowfall white on all my doors and trim...I absolutely love it! We are renovating our kitchen and if we decide to go with a white a kitchen, I would like to use the same white that I have in my home. However, the tile flooring is white as well and countertops (quartz with some grey and gold bringing) My fear is that it’s “too much white”...debating if I should paint my cabinets a greige paint to off set all the white!! I just painted my bedroom and master bath SW Alabaster with SW High Reflective White trim and doors. I LOVE the look, both colors work beautifully together. Depending on the time of day (morning sun) it looks white without being too stark white, as the day progresses it warms up turning into a vanilla cream in the evenings. My bedroom is west facing with more windows and a small south window. My master bath is west facing. The High Reflective White stays pretty true to color at all times. Unfortunately they were not able to do the cabinets in HRW as the paint I used on the cabinets could not be mixed in that color. HRW is a color that is funny at Sherwin Williams and kinda' tricky and definitely takes more coats to cover. I used Emerald paint in Alabaster on ceilings, walls, and cabinets in different finishes and Super Paint in Semi Gloss in HRW for trim and doors. I was nervous about using Alabaster on the cabinets in the bathroom but it worked perfectly. I will say, for those that are using a white on walls that is not as warm as Alabaster/White Dove, or more cooler grays (think grays that aren't greige) the Alabaster or White Dove warm soft whites are going to go yellow/cream. I would recommend going with Pure White for cabinets and trim. It is still a soft white without the creaminess of Alabaster. High Reflective White is also a good white it's not as soft as Pure White but still not so white that it looks cheap, but again HRW is hard to cover and cannot be mixed in many sheens and paints. I decided not to go with Pure White with my Alabaster walls because my husband wanted more of a contrast with the doors and trim, I wanted to use Alabaster on everything, but made a compromise with my husband, and went with HRW. I am not at all disappointed with the look. I know I spent countless hours agonizing over the choices and hopefully this will help others that are in the same position.

Did you keep the White Dove or switch to something else? We will have TONS of natural light (4 skylights and tons of windows/doors that are south facing and will get Colorado sun all day). I'm hoping since it's the weekend I can stall a little until Monday morning and may just have to paint some boards tomorrow to put up and see how they look in the light throughout the day.

If you like the white-on-white, I think the gray-white of BM Paper White could be nice. Or maybe go one step up on that same strip - BM Sterling 1591. You could also go with Pure White on your cabinets. If you decide it's too stark, then you could paint your walls Paper White or Sterling (which would be like the top inspiration pic you posted.) Do you have wood floors in your kitchen? That really warms up a white-on-white room, IMO.

Your efforts are not in vain. (I do wish I could understand the color wheels and the YG and all of that but I will take a small dose of victory for now. Thank you Lori!

Curious about this as well. I already have Dove Wing (shade below White Dove) in most rooms and am considering Pure White for some cabinetry.
