Hang on to those masks, Moni. We're in this for the long run, and you can share with anyone who wants an extra. Fabric masks are widely sold on the internet, often up to $15 each.

I've purchased plain fabric masks for $5 at grocery stores.

I saw surprised to see them last week near the checkout lanes in Kroger (grocery store). I purchased mine on Etsy.

We buy masks made by high school seniors that are sold at a local family owned pharmacy. There are several retired nurses in the HOA that make and distribute them free of charge to anyone who asks.

But keep making masks, Moni, they will be needed in the future.

I just bought some from China, apparently, on Amazon. I didn't know they were from China when I ordered them, and they came super fast, which is not normal. They're well made, several layers and have comfortable ear straps. They're also prettier than the ones my work gave us. The ones our work gave us are thin cotton (1 layer), one white that is too tight for me and a camo green one that fits okay but, like I said, it is paper thin.

I agree with Socks, hang on to the ones you have.

At the beginning of April, I ordered a set of 5 masks for $25 (so they're $5 each) from Matteo, in Los Angeles. They're made of double layered percale cotton (225 thread count) with linen ties. (I prefer masks that tie.) They have a pocket to add a filter. I did have to pay shipping.

And, my husband had ordered a set of masks made from certified organic cotton (4 masks for $30) from a company, also in Los Angeles, called Avocado Green. They make certified organic mattresses. Shipping is free.

I have also ordered masks from New York from a company that lets you choose whether you want ties or elastic. Lots of neat quilter's cotton fabric from which to choose. Shipping is $2 and the cost of the masks vary according to the size (women's or men's) and whether you choose fabric ties, satin ties, or elastic. She gets new fabric from time to time, too.

I'm looking for the kind that have a filter slot and that tie -- not loop on the ears. I need that kind bkz of hearing aids.

I ordered some on line that promised quick delivery. That was a week ago. I agree about hanging on to those masks. In addition you might want to buy a box of disposables. I find that when I have to go shopping or to the doctor's office I would rather remove the mask and drop it into the nearest trash can than have it in the car with me.

It's good to have extras. One in the car in case we go anywhere (haha), one in the purse, one in the dog walking supplies, one on the bike, Moni, etc.

I have four masks, that have had for a long time... I use them when allergies strike, or I am someplace where house pets are (in the past). 2 live in the car, ALL THE TIME, one in my backpack (actually a camelbak) that I use when cycling. Now, I have 8 I consider pretty.

Pudgeder, I am so sorry... I make the ones with elastic... and no slot... but 3 layers over nose and mouth, but only two at the sides, where the folds are.e

Here is what I have on hand right now:

plus 11 additional Strawberry, 3 additional bike, and 3 additional black and white. I still have a stack of fabric already cut out.

Moni your masks are beautiful and so nicely made. They all look uniform. I am attempting to make some for myself, friends and close neighbors, but I am struggling with the pleats. Yours are so neat and tidy. I would love to know how you do yours to have them come out so well.

I recently purchased some masks at Target. They do have an opening for a filter. 2 masks for $4 and they are washable. At my store, they only had size L/XL In black and they were a good size for DH and a DS (way too big for me). Target also had children’s masks. Within the Target store, the masks were located in the accessory section.

I saw this last week at Target. Paper masks are available everywhere for those that forget or didn't bring one also i.e. church/gatherings/some retail establishments. It does seem the manufacturers have caught up.

@pudgeder - check the links I posted above. Matteo and Avocado Green both sell masks that tie and that have a pocket for a removable filter. The third link (from New York) has masks that tie, but they do not have a filter pocket.

Ok, Ava, I actually measure my outside folds, pin them twice, once at each end, and then fold the middle, and now measure that the side is 3". I also sew the sides three times. Like this:

and I use contrasting fabric on the inside, so the wearer will know, which side he/she had against her face.

In fact, I sew interfacing in the center... so it is 3 layers, where you breathe. 3 layers overall makes the folds to hard to do for me.

I had a hard time with making pleats--not my strength.

Moni I will try using your pics for reference. I was asked just now if I would make 3 children's mask. I think they range from 5 to 10 yrs old. If you have made those, what size should I cut the fabric?

Ava just a suggestion there is no need for pleats think gathers either perminant or adjustable. Make a tube on the sides use a piece of cording or even shoe strings in the tube. The person receiving them could then fit them to the child using a knot. One of my SIL's makes masks and while hers are following the JoAnn pattern the puts the tube along the side so that the ear piece can be replaced. What you would need is the measurements from the bridge of the nose to just under the chin then add a couple of inches to the distance from top to bottom.
