Speed Queen Dryer leaves black streaks on canvas

I recently purchased a Speed Queen DF7 dryer (their higher end model in white with a stainless steel drum). So far it's done a decent enough job drying clothes, but yesterday I tried to wash and dry a bag made of heavy cotton canvas. The bag went through the wash fine, but it came out of the dryer covered in dark black streaks. I inadvertently made the situation worse by turning the bag inside-out at one point, which covered the inside with black streaks as well.

Is this normal when drying a heavy hard fabric like canvas? I called SQ and their rep said he had never heard of anything like that. I did notice that the stainless steel in the dryer seems thinner and cheaper than that in my washing machine (a SQ front-load purchased about 3 years ago). I have noticed in the past that cheap SS leaves dark marks when rubbed with a cloth. The only thing I can think of is that the SS drums that SQ uses in their dryers is lower quality than the one used in their washing machines.

I would appreciate any suggestions/explanations that anyone might have.
