Apple tree dying?!?

i got this apple tree a couple weeks back and it was very scrawny to begin with but recently it started losing leaves. the leaves become yellow and dry up. the apples are growing fine but some started to rot. how do I fix this?

A transplant in full leaf needs copious watering. How much is it getting?

I’m scared to overwater it so I’ve been doing it every couple of days, it’s been raining a lot these couple of days. should I water it more?

I bought a Drawf apple tree at HD. 1 week after I plant on the ground the leave has rusted. It is because my husband put cow steer under the root at plant. He digged out the tree and moved to another location, clean up the cow steer and trim out all the leaves. My tree has green trunk about 2 inches brown at the lower part of the trunk. Would this tree be alive? Or should I assume it is dead and throw it away in trash can? Please help! Thank you,

what is your soil ... define what you mean by standing water... duration.. depth .. etc .... define how you planted it ... it MIGHT be water.. it might be how you treated it at planting.. and it might just be transplant shock ... was it potted or ball and burlap? .. did you do any root surgery if the roots were circling???? transplanting .. and properly planting a fully leafed out tree is incredibly stressful to said tree ... rain.. in soil that drains SHOULD be a plus ... no matter the amount ... but if your soil is clay.. and you created a tub that holds water .. then you could have problems ... but it usually takes longer for roots to rot.. rather than diagnose stress ... you MIGHT want to stick it back in the pot ... but wait until others have provided their thoughts .... if the pot is gone.. the nursery you got it from might have a recycle bin .... and a pic sure might help ... good luck ken

"Is there a broad spectrum insecticide/disease treatment that I can spray on them?" Normally, that type of treatment is the very least effective, especially in the long run! Targeted applications are much more likely to help your tree. Identify your problems, then take specific action. BTW, Your local ag extension service may be able to provide lots of help identifying your problem(s).

Once a week in a pot isn't enough water. It's probably dried out and the water is just running thru. Set it in a saucer such that you can hold water about an inch deep around the bottom of the pot. That will allow the media to rewet by wicking up from the bottom. If it is from being too dry it should look better in a couple days. After it gets going again don't drown it by standing in water all the time. Let it dry out some between waterings but not so much that it droops again.

Yes, probably. Every couple of days tells us the frequency, not the quantity. How much are you giving? And unless you have had a monsoon, rain isn’t going to be sufficient for a large transplant in full leaf and even fruit. Unless you have very poor drainage it’s hard to overwater a tree planted in the ground.

note first section on timing.. yoru tree is incredibly stressed .. not only trying to save the leaves.. ubt also the fruit .. which i expect to abort due to stress ...

then note section on watering ...

then note section on how to plant ... and lets discuss how you did anything contrary ...

figure out how much water it needs .... lawn irrigation is not sufficient ...

if you can perfect watering.. you ought to be in good shape going into fall and winter ... wherever you may be ...

Couple of things:

1) new trees don't handle stress well

2) take off the apples. The tree needs to survive right now, not grow fruit. As Ken said, they will probably fall off anyway

3) if underwatering is a problem, generally a big batch of rain or watering will cause the leaves to perk up, at least a bit. If that is NOT the case, you may have a problem with OVERwatering or perhaps disease.

4) is there any issue at the base? is the root flare buried? Does water pool there? Any mushrooms growing? When you planted the tree, the roots were all free - not caged or bagged or tangled in a tight ball?
