Pella vs. Andersen windows
Comments (152)I know this is an old thread. If anyone is still reading, I'm looking for advice on replacing our windows and sliding glass doors at our beach house. We have 8 casement windows and 3 sliding doors. We were going to go with vinyl new construction windows and doors until we started hearing negative information about the durability of vinyl. We are doing this once so want to do it right. The sliders also face south and get hot afternoon sun. Also we are undecided between white or black exterior trim (white inside) but that's a whole other decision to make! We will be visiting both Pella and Andersen this week. We are looking at possibly the Pella Impervia fiberglass line, or the Andersen 100 Series Fibrex. We need to make a decision quickly to get the product ordered. This will be done in tandem with a deck replacement and siding replacement with Certainteed vinyl white board and batten. Any advice and recommendations are appreciated. Thanks!...See MoreWhich of these bad window treatments should I pick for patio door?
Comments (17)our vacation home faces full west out the back. for the kitchen i did a solar shade, its good enough as your eyes generally look down while prepping. for the dining room window next to the kitchen the solar shade wouldnt be enough to eat facing the window. did a plain old fashioned mini blind.. well, not that mini but not a wide one either. i have 4 sliders in that house and they all have vertical blinds, because thats the only thing that works if you actually get sun into rooms you want to be in, and have the slider function as well. we got rid of the old plastic clacky blinds for something more fabric but still quite light blocking. before i bought verticals again, i looked at real estate listings for that area to see what other homes did with their sliders. EVERY SINGLE ONE, bar none, including multi million dollar homes with everything updated, had vertical blinds on their sliders OR ELSE no treatment at all. which means they took down their verticals to sell the house. verticals were invented along with sliders. sadly the first ones were really pretty fugly, and people took to hating on them....See MoreAndersen 100 and Pella 250 - same quote, which to pick?
Comments (4)The Pella‘s have 2 panels that operate vs only one on the 100. The 350’s are way overpriced, and. Even the other 2 are kinda of high. I would suggest getting some other quotes. Inbsluder configuration I don’t think the Pellas would be to bad since all these type of operators us use a pocket sill, but I would go Anderson. The brands MWM suggested are good but are typically sold by limited dealers that only sell them installed within the exception of the Marvin which can be typically found at old school type lumber yards not box stores. If you are going to Home Depot for the Andersen’s have them price them through there “bid room” and for better pricing buy them when Menards is having 11% off and Home Depot will match that. Does not apply if you have no Menards in your area....See MorePella 250 vs. Marvin Essential casement windows - which to pick?
Comments (2)The pricing is backwards if you were to consider the cost of the window itself. Go with Marvin or find a better vinyl window....See MoreRES, architect
