Miele Washer W1753 and Dryer - looking for honest reviews/ feedback

Hello,

My husband and I need to replace our original washer and dryer in our townhouse. We are looking at the entry level Miele washer W1753 and dryer. We haven't decided whether to go heat pump or condenser dryer.

Has anyone used this model(s)? looking for feedback. Whenever I ask a sales associate their opinion at Trail or Coast I don't trust them. I always get the feeling that they just want to make a sale and are telling me what they think i want to hear.

I have the lower level washer and higher level dryer. I am happily obsessed with them, though there was a bit of a learning curve. (Note: I think the USA and Canada model numbers are different, there may also be slightly different features, idk.)

Washer: smaller loads than I thought work better. Figuring out the right amount of detergent, temps, add-ins (e.g. oxy) to work with my water hardness and so on took some trial and error. If you have not used modern front loaders before there is a lot you can learn. I recommend Olga's Laundry Blog, it's no longer active but lots of good information there about an older-model Miele. Important note about this machine -- it vibrates! the fast spin is REALLY fast! I continue to have occasional bangs due to unbalancing. Miele techs have looked at it and pointed out that really, this thing is supposed to be installed on concrete, so even though it's level, there is enough play in my old, wavy, very un-level wood floors that some shaking appears inevitable. Hard water can be a consideration for these too; because of the spinning, I have gotten hard water/mineral stains on clothes that I didn't used to experience; lower spin speed on dark clothes seems to help.

Dryer: The heat pump dryer is probably not quite as good as a vented one, but it's much much better than a condenser dryer. We had one of those before and basically gave up and line-dried everything. That said, I do put everything on the "extra dry" setting that this model has. :) One of the reasons I upgraded on the dryer was a Steam setting -- this is a total disappointment to me (and I would have exchanged it except that our sales person had found it open-box for about the same price as the next model down, so whatever).

Aside from the hard water issue mentioned above, I feel like they treat my clothes very well. If not overloaded, stain removal is great.

I haven't tried any of the capsule products.

They are fairly small and fairly quiet! The machines tell you what to do to maintain them.

I love them.

I also find it odd that the replacement washer had the same issue. It makes me feel like _I'm_ not using the washer correctly. But, this isn't my first front loader, and with a household of 3 adults, we don't do that much laundry. I know the shipping bolts were not removed until delivery. However, they did place the washer and dryer on their backs outside my home to screw in the pedestals before bringing the units into my house and up the stairs. I don't think they removed the shipping bolts until the washer was in my house on the second floor. The one to two week turnaround time to get a service appointment has been standard during this washer/dryer saga. I'm not sure if the Sears services all appliance brands they sell, or just Kenmore, but in either case they are 'backogged' enough that this much time is needed to get an appointment.

Armjim, I have three Mieles that accept laundry loads from 5kg to 6.5kg, similar to the current W3038. The W1 and T1 are larger than my current machine. I wash on a weekly basis three king sized sheets with pillow cases in my unit. My king sized flat sheets are 110"x120" on average (I don't use fitted sheets). These are mainly cotton sheets. I wash my linen sheets separately but I put two in the machine at one time and there is tons of room to spare. Spinning at 1200rpms has never been a problem. My older machines go up to 1400rpms. For towels, I wash my large towels in my machines. I usually have two body sheets which are 900gsm turkish cotton and they are 36"x72" wide and about 25 face towels in one load. I wash my kitchen towels separately from body towels. I have never had an issue with the machine not balancing or not cleaning my clothes. There is still space left in the towel load but each family member does their own load of towels in their time. I use two towels a week and wash them in this frequency. Some others in the household wash weekly and stuff the machines to the gills. I have washed 9 pairs of denim jeans in one load with no problem. I wash weekly and sort by function and color. Because of this, my normal weekly loads are smaller. I don't use bath rugs but do you a towel based bath mat and these are washed with the towels or separately depending on me remembering to grab them from the bathroom when I sweep for dirty items. I don't use comforters but use Duvets and Duvet covers instead. The Duvet covers are in sent to the cleaners twice a year because they are down and it is not easy to clean them correctly at home. I wash my duvet covers every week like a load of sheets. They act like two sheets in the washer. I also used cotton blankets and wash king sized cotton blankets in the washer on a monthly basis. I have 15-year-old front loader washer and dryer. We got the pedestals, and I have to say they are nice--I like the drawers underneath where my kids put their dirty socks and other unmentionables after sports practice. I also appreciate not bending over so far to get inside. Mine are one of the original frontloaders and I've had 2 repairs on them that I can remember. They perform very well but I'm careful to use HE laundry detergent and only half the amount, at most. I also don't vary the cycles much so I'm not challenging the electrical components (or so that's my theory). Because of their age, I know we're nearing the end of their lives but I'm willing to do a few more repairs unless they completely break down. I also blow them a kiss and thank them each time they complete a cycle. I swear this is the key. I keep my washer door cracked open a bit when not in use to avoid the smell. It makes sense if you think about it--to keep a FL leak-free during a cycle vs. a TL, the seal must be more tight when closed. A TL still has some air circulation when the lid is down.

So...I didn't really consider the speed ovens until they were brought up recently on the thread. Now that I've looked at them, aside from the increased cost and loss of a turntable, are there any downsides to swapping the Miele microwave with a Miele speed oven? It looks like the footprint is identical, which would be my primary concern with this change. I didn't really set out to get three ovens, but given that I really want the standard convection oven, the combi-steam oven, and a microwave, it seems like it's worth considering this change. Given the desire for fast reheating, etc with wife and kids, having a microwave is necessary. Also, is it still advisable to keep the warming drawer? From what I've read, some have suggested the the speed oven and/or steam oven can replace a warming drawer, but @pillog's thoughts on this post have convinced me that I'm not completely insane for wanting to keep this in the layout. (Biasing towards Thanksgiving/large group cooking as opposed to everyday needs.) The layout would be: Main stack: convection oven (bottom); warming drawer (middle); speed oven/microwave (mainly due to the fact that the XXL Miele CSO won't trim match with the 30" convection oven but the microwave will: post and post) Separate stack (opposite side, beneath counter): CSO Thanks for everyone's thoughts on this design, it's been really helpful. -joe

Im only at 5 years and I have had nothing but issues with this washer and their customer service is far worse!! 6 weeks and waiting for them to bring me someone competent to fix it! I would NEVER purchase from them again
