Any good French Door Refrigerators out there?
Comments (46)We have LG FD CD fridge, model LG LFC21776ST. Note that this does NOT have ice/water through the door, a specific requirement of mine. It has an icemaker in the bottom freezer which (touch wood) works perfectly. We were limited to this size because of the cabinetry in our kitchen. I originally thought the fridge was way too small, but so far I'm very happy. It's superquiet and efficient, everything is in sight, the lighting, drawers and shelf arrangements work well for us. When it was delivered DH was concerned that it was taking so long to get the temperature down so we called LG's customer service. They had a repairman at our house within a day. He told us everything was operating normally, and the fridge was slow because it's a high-efficiency appliance. Other than this, we have no complaints in about 10 months of use. Comments (33)normjohnston14 - You probably know this already, but The Brick owns Transglobal. If you buy your appliance at The Brick you will be getting Transglobal. We used to have (emphasis on "used to") an appliance repair contract. The company used Transglobal. I do not put a lot of faith in the Cdn. home service rating company, but Transglobal has practically a 0 rating. We recently had to buy a new fridge. We were seriously challenged by space due to the height - cupboards can't really be cut. So we had to go with a top mount fridge that just fits under the cupboards with the minimum requirement of space above it. I shudder to think of the issues if this fridge dies in the short term because even most of the top mounts are starting to be made at a height of 67 - 69 inches - and many are 33 inches in width. Heck we couldn't get that size of fridge in the doorway. A lot of people have found that while an appliance might fit their space, getting it into their homes can be a major issue - if not impossible. It was also the only top mount we could find (in Ontario) that was Energy Efficient and since you live in Ontario you will know all about that issue. People in the U.S. have considerably more options. I looked at every website out there. We did take out the Extended Warranty just in case - I was afraid not to. It is stainless steel but the type that you can't use stainless steel cleaners on. It is a good thing I knew this because the manual was written by someone I am certain had never seen the fridge and was one of those manuals that cover every single fridge the company makes. But we did not buy the fridge from The Brick. I was told by the fridge manufacturer that if we bought it from The Brick they would have to send Transglobal. Never! The warranty was purchased directly from the manufacturer. I am aware that cosmetic issues are not covered. Actually if you read the Limited Warranty that came with your fridge you will see how hardly anything is covered. We had major issues with our Whirlpool starting at age 1.5. At least it had a bottom mount freezer. You want to speak about rust. Yikes....See MoreLooking for 36" french door refrigerator without ice maker problems
Comments (26)Update #2: Our new Samsung refrigerator was delivered this morning. It took a while to figure out the control panel and how to make all the settings. I can hardly believe it, but this thing seems to work perfectly so far. The best thing is that I hit a home run with my wife on this thing! She absolutely loves it. I checked the temps and the refrigerator is at 37 degrees, the Flex Zone is at 34 degrees, and the freezer is at 2 degrees. The door in door feature is great for grabbing our milk and coffee creamer without having to open the main door, which helps to keep cool air in the fridge. The LED lighting is fantastic in this model and the crisper drawers glide in and out so smoothly. I was initially dead set against getting a French Door model, because I do have back and knee problems, and I didn't want to have to bend down every time I wanted something from the freezer. But the reviews on most side by sides were so bad that I just couldn't pull the trigger. Also, my wife wanted the French Door so she could chill foods prepared on cookie sheets or store wide food platters, which you cannot do in a side by side. So, my solution for the freezer is that I will store the items that I use on the top drawer, and my wife can put other things on the lower level. It's actually not that hard to access my items because the freezer drawer pulls out so far and I don't really have to bend down that much to grab something off of the top drawer, and I am almost 6 feet tall. This is, by far, the quietest refrigerator I've ever heard. When the house is dead quiet, I can barely hear it running from 10 feet away. I guess our old fridge had gotten really loud after 35 years of operation! About the only noise it ever makes is the ice maker dropping cubes and the water pitcher refilling....See MoreFrench door oven next to french door refrigerator
Comments (9)@jackowskib - thanks for the quick comment and kind words! I am considering shifting the fridge over. I'm waiting to hear just how much space we can stick in between the fridge and the wall to be sure I can open the fridge doors past 90°. The last thing I want is to limit access to the drawers inside. I have the same opinion about the bottom freezers actually. There are 2 models that I've seen that do a better job of capturing most of the space and they include a separate (can be opened w/o opening french doors) refrigeration/custom temp drawer. Those are the reasons I've added them to my consideration list. Also, we're going to have a small freezer in the house so I've got a little additional freezer storage available. That section of cabinet to the right on the counter will either be open or have a bifold door that opens to the right. Apparently those stay-open hinges are quite expensive!...See MoreRay B.
