Farrow & Ball - Amazing, but now I have too much - suggestions?
Comments (21)amy, thanks so much for the answer! Brushworks and faron discouraged me too but I did it anyway coz I figured F&B or someone who's used it would have a better idea about what works best for it. I hadn't gotten an answer from someone who'd used it, so I went for it. Yes it was a lot of work and if I could figure out the technique to do it well, I'd love to do so again. The finish looks amazing with that - BUT because I'm not a super painter, there are some discontinuities that bug me all the more because the main part looks sooo good. It looks like silk - both from further away where the finish looks amazing as well as up close because the very fine brush marks look like fine silk stries. BUT, till I work it out, I probably shouldn't try it again in a rush. Where it didn't work out, I have had some problems and I have had to sand and retry. There are a couple of low wall segments which I may have to redo entirely because I've got some 8" sections here and there that I've really screwed up on. Hmmm, interesting that you cut in after. So, only in the first go around or each time? BTW, are you in Mass yet??? Do let me know when you get here and get settled in or if you want some help finding out about paint or other services etc....See Morefavorite farrow and ball colors

Comments (3)I love FnB for the reasons you mention. Ive used used Farrow's Cream in the vestibule and LR and a dressing room in my old house. Its the rare color that looks exactly as it does on screen. I've used Ringwold in a MBR, and found it a bit too peachy at some times of day. In our new home, Ive used Lime WHite, Pointing, WHite Tie and SLipper Satin, and love them all. BUt I think you are going for something darker than those? I also like Charleston Gray and French Gray, which I used on some fixtures. I did not like Ball Green, as it it far more green that it looks. Hope that helps. I just noticed in this second post that you have cherry bottom cabs and painted uppers --- i like it!...See MoreFarrow and Ball 'Biscuit'
Comments (12)I like the additional substance of GTW or BW over the AI. LW goes all yellow-y to my eye. DW looks a bit pink, and next to green, it's complement, I am afraid that could be magnified. I have been struggling with picking a white for trim color myself. I think that if you keep coming back to GTW, that's a good indication right there. As for matching the color, I think you should consider why you might want to use F&B in the first place. If it is only because of the color, that's one thing. But, functionally, the F&B is different. On walls, the finish is incomparable. As for cabinets, I don't have any experience with F&B trim paints but I can tell you that not all trim/cabinet paints are created equal! From what I read, I might try to get whatever color I wanted matched in Cabinet Coat or the Muralo ceramic paint. I will be using Pittsburgh Manor Hall Timeless for my trim, based on advice from Funcolors. Part of the job will be DIY and I needed something easy to work with. Wish me luck! :-) Remember, if you are paying to have this work done, the differential in the cost of fancy paint vs. regular paint is a small fraction of the cost of the whole job.
