I would like to install track lighting for my new kitchen. It is a galley kitchen so i think track makes the most sense. It is about 10 ft long and the floor area btwn the base cabinets is about 4-5 ft. I saw a track with 4 50W halogens, would that be enough light? I was thinking three lights aimed at each side. I have had great success with a "Agrobrite FLT46 T5 Fluorescent Grow Light System, 4 Feet, 6 Tube" ordered off Amazon. I am on my 3rd year and have not yet replaced any bulbs. I run it 16 hours a day 2/3 of the year. It is large enough to light 4 flats and I start all my plants under it. When not being used for garden starts I usually grow herbs in fall/winter. I prefer the light fixtures made specifically for growing plants as the shop lights have a painted white underside. The plant grow light fixtures have a shiny metal mirror finish underside to better reflect light downwards.

We just removed a similar light box in our kitchen! The drywall under it was in good shape except for a few holes, like where the wires came from the attic. We have a rancher, so it wasn't too hard for an electrician to put in half a dozen insulated, LED can lights. I know we got a bargain, but our (licensed) electrician charged us about $700, including removing and disposing of the light box, buying and installing the can lights and dimmer switch, and he also installed an outside spot light and replaced an under cabinet lighting. I love the change in our kitchen! I just finished patching and painting the ceiling. We didn't go with any pendants over the island. I love the bright, wide open look, and the lights are energy efficient, cool, and dimmable.
