What type of shelving should I put in reach-in pantry?
Comments (11)oouuhhhh!! I love Hillbilly's pantry! I hadn't been able to work out shelving for my pantry before we moved in a few days before Thanksgiving. I needed to get something organized in my house before hosting the holiday. My carpenter recommended the Rubbermaid adjustable shelving system with MDF shelves at HD. I really, really wanted something more custom looking, but settled for this as it was cheap, could be done in a day, and meant that I could UNPACK! The shevles are 12" deep and are adjustable, although, like someone else mentioned, I doubt I'll adjust them. Carpenter said it was cheaper to do adjustable shelves than fixed. grrrr. Oh, and BTW, that pantry was much more organized before DH came out from a visit in there and said, "there's a lot more room in the pantry now." He mushed everything together and put Christmas junk in there. Another grrrrr....See MoreCan I put composite treads on wood stair bases?
Comments (4)Thank you for your responses. Here are pics. There is a 3rd stringer underneath. Steps up to front door landing don't get much use. (We come in through garage.) I've had treads and landings replaced a few times over the years with wood. But thinking grey composite would last longer / look better. As you can see from the bottom landing photo (4th), the stair treads are approx 1 1/2" thick and the landing boards (both top and bottom landings) are 1" thick. Don't know if I would have to / could mix composite replacement board thicknesses? TIA....See MoreCan you put wood ONLY where carpet runner was on stairs?
Comments (2)If you paid for a 'retread' then you might only get new wood on the treads. If you paid for the spindles to be removed, the Red Oak removed and replaced with matching white oak, then you have a right to be upset. It all depends on the contract. Stairs are tricky. They are expensive, they are tiring, they are tricky and then are (once again) expensive. **If your original talk (ie. contract) spoke about staining, the GC (not a wood professional by any stretch of the imagination) would assume the two woods could be matched once stain went down (very common to work this way). If you then changed your mind and went with a natural finish, the Red Oak stringers became a liability that never were properly addressed after that (ie. paid for removal). Did your GC use a finishing Carpenter? If s/he did not, the GC was saving money. What used to be on the stair treads? Do you have photos of before (old coverings) and after (new wood with finish)?...See MoreShould I paint the wood column and stairs?
Comments (31)That depends on what modern means to you. I would start looking googling modern colonial. btw the last picture makes me say yes to painting the spindles and kickboards. These are all modern looks in their own way....See MoreRelated Professionals
