Laundry/mudroom room remodel

Hello!

Appreciate advice. I am looking to renovate the mudroom/laundry before moving into our home (we have an extended period of time before moving in which we can do some renovations while living elsewhere). I have attached some current pictures (sorry a few are dark). The pictures are looking left as you enter from the garage. There is a small area with a closet. There is a small wall separation with a door leading into the laundry room. My thought was to breakdown the wall and have it as one open space, remove the closet (there is another closet to the right which we will maintain), and then do the following (I included a rough draw of my thoughts) as listed below. My concerns are 1. should we maintain the laundry room as a separate room or opening it up? 2. Should we maintain the cabinetry already in place or new cabinets (if we did new cabinets, we would do white cabinets)?

Laundry area:

New quarts or granite counters (counters over the washer and dryer/built in space for W/D)

New utility sink

Hanging rack

Tile backsplash

additional full length cabinetry

New tile floor

Mudroom area

Remove closet

install cubby area with bench and storage

new tile floor

Here are the photos of the current space:
