Help me decide between sliding or hinged door

We are updating a small bath (approximately 5 x 8) that has an alcove shower and toilet. The shower head is opposite the door and toilet so we can install a hinged door on that side. I would think the door would open from the inside (on the shower head side) toward the wall opposite the door. Is that the way it's supposed to work? There is a window on that wall too.

The shower is in the master bedroom so only the wife and I would use it. We both like the seamless look of hinged doors (minimal visible hardware), which is difficult to get on sliding doors. For sliders, we like being able to access from either side.

We were initially scared off from hinged doors by people telling us that they get a lot of water spillage. I still am not sure how? Does water get out through openings or when they open the door or some other way?

Is there anything else I should know? The bath is small so would a hinged door still be an issue opening toward the wall? Any other advice that people could give?

Please excuse the mess, shower has been out of commission.
