Need help deciding between free-standing and deck-mounted bathtub
Comments (18)The WetStyle f/s tub has a removable tray that sits across the tub. I like numberjunkie's idea of a shelf or ledge behind the tub for placing items and also like the idea of having the shower wall next to the tub tiled half-way up to have a space for installing a grab bar. WetStyle has an optional shelf that surrounds the tub, but I think it would make it more challenging to get in and out of the tub - would need to hop over the shelf. The drop-in tub I was initially considering was 72"x42" but that would likely not fit, so would need to be 72"x36". This weekend I looked at an open house (new construction) in my area that had a drop-in tub with a narrow space for the deck surround (see attached photo). The deck was tiled on the top and on the apron with white subway tile. I noticed that with the narrow deck space (about 2") and the tub overhang, it would be awkward to sit on the edge of the tub and swing my legs in or out of the tub. Wiithout space for a deck that is wide enough to comfortably sit on, ease of entry or exit may come down to depth of the tub and options for placement of grab bars. The Wetstyle tub is 22" deep; the drop-in tubs are generally deeper, more like 26"...See MorePlans to buy free-standing spa tub - HELP!!!
Comments (7)We just bought our Dynasty Spa - Neptune - Atlantis model with all the bells and whistles!!! and we love it!! We live in Nashville Tn and the spa is manufactured here so we felt very comfortable with our purchase and the history of the company. I think it is the only spa that has a 3 pump system and had the most foot room at the bottom. We shopped around for a while and you really need to get in them and try them out as far as how you sit in them. My husband is 6'5 and this was really the only spa that would accomidate his height and suit me as well. We filled it 2 weeks ago and I have been in it every change I get, the thermostate is set on 93 and its really nice even in this kind of heat. Shop around and I think you will see that this is a very nice spa that is in a leauge of its own. Im not a sales rep, Im just very satified with our choice!! I have the nature2 system to sablize the water. Its a small tube that fits in the filter of your spa and reacts for 3 months. When we get out of the spa I put a cap full of the sani-spa and the chemicals have been good so far. Good Luck...See MoreNeed a freestanding tub and freestanding faucet for our home reno
Comments (12)We got a very good deal on a Victoria and Albert tub, but we had also been looking at "vintage tub" and they had some ones that looked nice. We had bought a Pfister faucet to go with it, but it was too low for our tub when they went to install it. Then we were stuck with having to get a faucet which had the same center distance on the pipes and there weren't a ton with the 7" centers so ordered the victoria and albert faucet but it was almost too high above the tub and so so expensive. In the end we got one I really like from vintage tub and looks wise the polished nickel finish and the porcelain on the handle as well as the feel/weight etc. looks just as good quality for 1/5 the price of the V&A one. Haven't really used it yet as it just went in on Friday so can't speak for long term use....See MoreHow do you keep the floor behind a free standing tub clean?
Comments (8)Jan has it correct. Do not put anything in your home unless it has some practical use or it looks beautiful. What happens is that people take a beautiful, practical item and try to place it everywhere. Doesn't work. The beauty of a free-standing tub is that it is free-standing. They look gorgeous sitting in the center of a huge bathroom. They are neither practical or nice-looking shoved up against a wall. it is not just the fact that it is very difficult to clean it.....it is the fact that one looks at it and thinks.....gee, I wonder how often that is cleaned? And it is just disconcerting when you try to fit a square peg in a round hole. Something is offsetting about it. Here is another consideration: no place to put soap, towels, etc. You have to add a stand, which is another piece or clutter and something to clean. In a few years, I can guarantee you, people will be ripping out these "oh so awful free-standing tubs from the 2010's. Having said that, you are the homeowner. if you want to put a free-standing tub anywhere and you like it, that is your choice. Just showing you the drawbacks. So, I would ask myself these questions: Why do I want a free-standing tub? What are the benefits and the drawbacks of adding one? Only you can say if the benefits for you outweigh the downsides. Much success to you!...See MoreFaith Z
