Cost effective breakfast and lunch ideas
Comments (29)punamytsike, my kids are 15, 14, 12, 11 and 9...Plenty old enough to make their own breakfast...however, their attention to detail lacks a lot...plus they will make WAY too much if I am not there. By "attention to detail" lacking, I am referring to those important details like turning off the stove caps or oven...or taking the fork out of the bowl before putting it in the microwave. Or using the timer so that food doesn't burn. I have tried SO hard to teach them to pay attention to these things but after nearly 3 house fires, I had to make a "no baking for frying rule..." Especially since 4 of my 5 are up by 6:00 on the weekends and I don't get up until 7:30 or so. Their use of household appliances is limited to the toaster and microwave. I also have to set limits. Three waffles, one cup of juice and one cup of milk for breakfast. One banana. If I don't do this, one child will have 8 waffles and the late risers will get nothing. This makes it very difficult to buy in bulk. I shop often. No less than once per week...because if I shop for 2 weeks everything is still gone in one week. I blame this on the fact that I have 4 boys who could eat themselves through a brick wall. LOL! The macaroni dish is one my mother fixed when I was growing up. I have wanted to try it here but I'm afraid to. Two of my kids are very very picky...I think I'll try it this week though. I always LOVED that dish!...See MoreUpdating Kitchen - ideas/budget/things to consider
Comments (12)Ok I was completely guessing at around $25k without appliances so that is in the same ballpark at least! It will be a gut and update. It will be a total redo of everything - new tile, cabinets (at the very least doors and refinished - I really don't like the "legs" and bun feet so maybe all new as not sure what can be altered). Assuming new counter as I want a complete undermount sink instead apron style - cabinets ruined underneath. It won't be a project for at least a couple of years but need some kind of guideline to ensure I have enough to cover. Thankfully no floor plan changes - just a total up date to existing plan. Cabinets are the biggest black hole for me as I have not had to replace those before in other houses - fairly familiar with tiling/counters and the rest. Kitchen is hardwood flooring which is the flooring throughout the house so no flooring change anticipated....See MoreUpdating kitchen - looking for paint ideas for colonial white granite
Comments (7)Not what you asked, but I would not choose Colonial White granite. It is one of the most stain-prone granites there is. You will need to be sealing it 4x a year, and even then, it will even absorb water around your sink, much less oil and foods. The whole point of getting a granite counter is its toughness- -except for a few like Colonial White, Imperial White, Glacier White and Kashmir White. Instead, for low-maintenance white-background granites, check out Alaska White, White Delicatus, or Viscon (sometimes Viscont or Viscount) granite....See MoreNeed ideas on how to cost effectively update a pool house
Comments (2)I will be renting it to a family member and they would have access to the kitchen in the main home. Just looking for ideas to spruce it up. @live_wire_oak...See Moremegs1030
