This wildflower was found growing at a wetlands park. It has these yellow, coned blooms about ~3.5" wide... What is it?

Is it possible that this is just a nice sport of Rudbeckia hirta?

I thought so, too. I was looking early this morning at images to show my neighbor how variable flower color and patterns could be . I stumbled across this site at the time.

"Rudbeckia hirta", Black Eyed Susan, has always done best for me in a less fertile soil than most plants want. What I have seen over the years is that when grown is soils well amended with organic matter, that may retain too much soil moisture and have too high nutrients, many fungal diseases appear while those planted in much less fertile soils will not have those types of problems. This was once a "wild flower" or a "weed" that has been hybridized but still retains many of the "wild flower" characterisitcs of growing best in less fertiles soils.

Herbstonne is a laciniata cultivar with green disks and leaves with 3 leaflets, and not 1 leaf with 3 lobes like this plant. Several sources say R. triloba reaches 5', and one gave 6'. Now, those petals?

Carol, that looks exactly like it! My guess would have been Ratibida. Here's how to tell the difference (from the web):

Ratibida pinnata has drooping rays, cones that emit an anise scent when crushed and deeply divided basal leaves. The similar species Rudbeckia hirta has stiff horizontal rays, unscented cones and un-lobed lance shaped basal leaves.
