Yes the chain fence to the left of the wood fence-it’s roughly 25 feet. Good point about shrub v tree. ideally coverage would go from ground to at least 6’ above the top of the fence although there is plenty of room to grow higher

I should add that the fence lies roughly 25 feet from a swimming pool so need to stay away from invasive roots or something that will drop a lot of leaves

Looks pretty shady, which will limit what you can grow well and thickly enough to screen. How much sun does this area receive?

"Roughly 25 feet" looks like closer to about 16' as it only spans 2 sections of fence, which are likely about 8' each.

Besides the possiblity mentioned by Floral, there is Pittosporum.

Chain link is usually put up in 10ft sections. Wood fences are 8 ft.

Thanks so much for the comments! I just measured and the sections are 10 feet, so looking at 20’ total. This area gets a lot of sun all day long. i would like to avoid something that will drop fruit though

On a fairly pronounced slope, there is probably less than 18' of true horizontal distance. So depending what you grow, there is only room for one or two. Have you explored any of the plant recommendations so far?

Good point about the slope-I really should have done better in geometry! So far the pittosporum seems most appealing since it won’t drop any fruit.

i would think that I’d have to plant more than one to achieve a continuous hedge but it does appear to be a fast grower so definitely a contender

My suggestions won't drop fruit if you harvest it to eat. And the fruit of Pomegranates are beautiful in themselves. Or you could use ornamental Pomegranates which have showyer flowers and don’t produce fruit.

As fat, naturalistic shrubs you could probably squeeze no more than 2 of Pittosporums or Pomegranates in the space. 3, if it's going to be a sheered hedge.
