help choosing James hardie siding color- arctic white or a dark grey?

Hi- building a house and cannot decide on arctic white vs a dark color like aged pewter or night grey. I’m not a fan of the grays that pull a blue hue. We have a mix of board and batten, shakes and siding. Help! The renderings attached are not really helping me but here is the elevation of our house.

Stone was a foundation material, before we had concrete. When using stone as a decorative element, it is best to use it near the foundation, so it looks authentic and useful - and put it all around the house. Back when stone was used as a building material, it would never be put on one wall, as you've shown. The only time stone would climb up off the foundation is when it was used as fireplace/chimney. That's why folks are objecting to a small wall of stone - and "peel and stick" refers to the fact that it is clearly for show, not structural.

4 exterior materials is 2 too many. The facade looks busy and disjointed - rather than a uniform siding type to bring the elements together, the various materials make the house look like different structures, plopped next to each other.

We haven't yet but are pretty sure we are going to use it on our house that is under construction. It's a bungalow and will have a lighter gray stone skirt. We got a sample from a local building supply store. Our builder didn't have the iron gray in his sample box. There are a few photos of houses with it on the Hardie web site. I don't really like it with all the light trim they show though. We will have a black roof (architectural shingles), gray soffits etc., white window frames, black shutters. Right now the front door is white but we might paint it red. We were looking for a dark / charcoal gray and the only other one we found was a premium vinyl, which we were told was more expensive than the hardie. Would love to hear from anyone who used a white from the Hardie “dream collection”…I’m renovating a colonial and want a true white. The arctic white is very popular where I live and it definitely appears gray, especially next to white Azek trim and it’s not the e look I’m going for.

I like the one that @Beverly likes. Not to be snarky, but contractors aren't always the best people to choose colors for you. But if the product rep says a color looks purple when installed, THAT I would pay attention to.

I agree with Mark. Both are very dark. Can you post a picture of the house and a sample board with the two choices? Most people aren't going to want to look up the colors. Unless they were also choosing siding recently they won't be familiar with those colors. Dark colors can work on some houses, so context would be helpful.

I don’t have a larger version and the stone is going to be chosen later- that is not what will be on there.

The stone is also quarry stone so not peel and stick- not sure where that came from🤣

I like how you have simplified the exterior.

I like the white much better.

So much of the stone we see nowadays is manufactured or ledger. Glad to hear you are using quarry stone.

the stone is going to be chosen later

It's wise to choose all exterior materials together.

You don't, for example, just order the perfect stone to match your paint colors -- unless you are very lucky.

Here is a pic of a completed one. We changed the front to have a porch vs the peak at the front door.

IMO the stone will ruin the look. So many think adding different materials will make for an interesting facade. It just makes it splotchy. Random stone spot on picture above. It would have been so much more harmonious without it.
