Demolition in progress!
Comments (48)Update: Tile floor still not done. The "tile guy" cut himself pretty seriously yesterday and spent most of the day in the Emergency Room waiting for stitches. He was back to work today...I'll see how much progress he made today. Venting Problem Not good. We got the estimate today from the contractor: $4,800 to move the waste pipe to the right 3 or 4 feet. I'm skeptical about that estimate. I know the contractor didn't want to do it, so I think he may have inflated the cost so we'd say no. The plumber told us we had a couple of different options, but when the contractor presented the price, he only gave one option...I'm going to "talk" to the KD about it tomorrow morning. I have heard on this site that when a contractor doesn't want the work, s/he often inflates the price so you'll say no or go elsewhere. I tried calling a a plumber we've used before w/no connection to the contractor to give us a second opinion/estimate, but they were gone for the day...I'll try tomorrow morning. If they have a better estimate, we'll probably go with him for the changes. Pantry No news here either...we meet w/our KD tomorrow about it. I have to say that my review of these people on Angie's List when we're done is rapidly deteriorating!...See MoreApril Quilting/Sewing Goals
Comments (45)I probably won't be able to do anything more tonight to finish out my month as my two oldest grandchildren are spending the night tomorrow night....their parents are walking with my other daughter-in-law's March of Dimes team (Raina's Wings) early Saturday morning. I need to get some things straightened up around here for their visit. UPDATE #3 1. One birthday block (Finished and sent out) 2. One (maybe two) paper pieced lotto block (Finished one and have pieces cut for second one) 3. Take individual photos of the birthday blocks I received and continue working on my Bobbin Babes notebook. When finished, I will have one page dedicated to each member with photos of what I received from them, what I sent them, and a photo of all the blocks they received (Worked a little on my pages, but this isn't a huge priority and it will take the rest of the year to accomplish the entire project.) 4. Hound the Bobbin Babes who have already had birthdays and haven't posted photos of all their blocks yet! (I hounded them last month with very little results, I might wait another month to hound again!) 5. Wash the rest of my fabric stash (Washed a bunch, but not all, washed a bunch more...still have some to do, but getting there!) 6. Possibly do a birthday block for June (Finished!) 7. Possibly make a couple of blocks for a quilt I want to start (Cut out several pieces for this quilt and finished six blocks) Salijo...See MoreNeed input on finishing touches for family room
Comments (35)Yes, that is exactly where we started with Les' arrangement--except there would not be enough space behind the sectional for the bookcase as it would put the sectional too close to the TV. The room is only 17' long. It did not work for us--as we are a family of five with two teenagers and there was too much contention for seating when watching the TV. Having it this way so we have an extra chair facing the TV works so much better and when we had friends over for Thanksgiving who'd been here before we switched it commented how much more spacious it felt. It's hard to tell from the pictures, but the kitchen table really is quite close to the family room so putting any furniture in the middle closes everthing in and makes for awkward walkways. Here's a couple before shots so you can see what I mean: I tried the sectional as Johna had suggested earlier, while it looked better, unfortunately the sectional is not oriented best for that (there are two pieces that butt up to the back wall) and would just come apart (think teens that are not overly gentle on the furniture and like to lounge here)--so reality having it pushed against the wall is the most practial solution. We just had the electrican over two weeks ago to get the cable moved. I tried moving the bookcase down further, but it looked squished since part of it looked like it was hidden by the console/TV and it's so pretty that I want it to be visable from the kitchen area. I could probably center it under the window, though if I remove the floor lamp--which is a possibility since we do have recessed lighting for this room. So, no one is liking the dried flowers from Michael's? I need to go there later today so am wondering if I should return them or not....See MorePlease help review our proposed layout
Comments (59)I have had a MW drawer since early 2008 and use it several time a day every day. I have had no problems with it. In fact, with one exception, it has outlasted all my "cheaper" countertop MWs by 4 years or more...so factor that in when you do a cost benefit analysis. The one that lasted the longest was a big Montgomery Ward's MW Convection Oven I bought in the mid-80s -- it lasted around 10 years. The one that lasted the least amount of time was a Panasonic (about 2 years). Sharp and Amana lasted about 4 or 5 years each. Note that I did not buy cheap countertop MWs b/c I happen to like the bells & whistles -- I use them all the time. My countertop models cost $250 to $300, I think. (It's been over 10 years now since I bought the last one, so they might have cost less...I just don't know for certain.) My 30" MW Drawer cost $800. So if the MW Drawer lasts another 4 years or so, I will have "broken even" with 3 countertop models at $300 lasting approx 5 years each. After that, I'm ahead of the game! The 24" MW drawers cost less than 30" and are the same size, so don't get a 30" model. . If the MW drawer is a budget-buster, then I suggest a countertop model installed above the counter (hanging from the upper cabinet) b/w the range and Laundry Room wall. However, you will probably have to move the range toward the sink another 6 to 9 inches to accommodate it. With the exception of, I think Bosch, all countertop MWs open with the hinge on the left, so this is the best location. [There is one that opens like an oven, but I don't know for certain that it's a Bosch nor am I certain it's a countertop model -- it might be designed to be installed as a built-in, which will then make it more expensive. The brand name may also make it more expensive...] Make sure the interior of the alcove for the MW is finished to match the exterior of the cabinets. That will add to the cost, but it will probably still be less than a MW drawer....See MoreLars
