Please help me freshen up the exterior
Comments (18)If the foundation is structurally sound - which could be a concern in a house of this age - then there is no issue with plant roots :-) That is a rather firmly held horticultural myth. And it is not clear from the photo provided but if the front yard is as tiny as I imagine it to be, getting rid of a lawn is not a bad choice....mowing and tending a postage stamp sized lawn is a PITA. The same area with paving and groundcovers offers a very low maintenance alternative to a lawn and sets a stage for a few well placed containers or one or two specimen plants....See MoreFreshen up the exterior!
Comments (2)I like the idea of a neutra ( or maybe wood look ) l for the garage doors, but I wouldn’t add a lot of hardware to emphasize them. Looks like your new house could use a complete landscaping makeover. Landscape lighting & fixtures flanking the front door & maybe, if there’s enough room, flanking the side of the garage. I’m not crazy about the idea of scrolling out your address above the garage doors, I wouldn’t do anything to attract attention to that area....See MoreFreshen up the exterior of my 20 year old home
Comments (23)Your home looks much more classic than McMansiony to me. You could extend the existing forward facing front gable to cover your steps as shown in the pic just posted by houssaon. That's where I'd stop; however, If you want to try to do more: ... If you create a shed roof just beneath the upstairs windows and to create a front porch across the full width of that part of the house, you will lose the visual appeal of the copper top of the bay windows so, ... if you want more front porch, you might consider extending the upstairs roof either as a shed roof two story front front porch or changing the front half of the roof line for a wide forward facing gable however, I cannot recall seeing a home similar to yours with the upstairs roof extended for the porch without also seeing a balcony above / in between the roof and the front porch -- and, a word of caution here, that may well be a structural as well as a decorative issue....See MoreWhat would you do to freshen up this front porch?
Comments (4)^Agree with deco. The shutters don't belong on your beautiful windows and really detract from your homes appeal. Landscaping is very important when selling. Removing those bushes she highlights will open up your entry and make your home very welcoming. The garage door is drawing all the attention because it is white and looks unpainted. Paint it either the color of your existing siding or a color to blend with the brick. Have your front door stand out with color. You can paint it white just like your sidelites. Or choose an accent color for your front door (leave the sidelites white). You may want to remove the screen door when selling. Removing the RV/camper is critical to opening up your homes appearance. Large address numbers visible from the curb are important. You know where your home is located, agents and buyers don't and can't see the tiny address as shown in your pic. Make sure the front door area is clean and welcoming when you put it on the market. Stage it with simple inexpensive but colorful/friendly welcome mat and a pot of flowers. A bench or chair if you have room. See insp pic below for concept....See Morehoussaon
