Rapportd & ID'ing the Requestor/App/Site

About once a week or so, Norton Security gives me a dialog box (tried to paste below but didn't work) saying that "the computer 10.0.0.8 is attempting to access rapportd on my computer. I have read up on rapportd and that dialog box, but I don't know what "computer 10.0.0.8" is. If it's a site or app that I need, fine. But I certainly, of course, don't want any irregular access to my computer.

When I click "Details", it shows Macintosh HD>usr>libexe>rapportd

In general, would you click "Allow" or "Block" if you didn't know the site name? My tendency would be to deny, but am looking for input. Any idea how to find out what computer 10.0.0.8 is? It's not me.

10.0.0.8 is a private address. Maybe you could log into your router can see what device/computer it assigned that address to.

Personally, after reading kudzu9's link, I'd think it's legit and I'd likely allow it.

ETA:

Also, since the device at 10.0.0.8 knows to look for rapportd (the d on the end tells me it's a daemon), I suspect it is also an "i" device.

An iPhone, iPad, something like that?

Do you have something else in your house on your router, such as a printer? I assume Apple has a network probe utility to check your local network connections.

Oh .... hmmmm. Yes, a printer for sure. Good thought. I'll check that address.
