Dont put furniture there, put an awesome large canvas there and a picture light over it. Boom drama!

Also I am all for floating furniture, but I think you are boxing in your living room, I would push the love seat back to the wall. It will also stop that piece of art from looking like its floating with no anchor. ( it needs lower a smidge as well)

You have a lot of space between your sofa and kitchen, pull you sofa back so it is centered to that wall between the door and the recessed area.

Thanks RL Relocation - we have an entrance from the garage which is why the loveseat isn't against the wall. And the entry to the utility room is on the other side of that wall which creates a dilemma. Thoughts? Here is a pic of that wall - showing entry door (small bath near entry door and utility room on the other side). The utility room has a pocket door so we can close it when not in use. So I really can't put the loveseat against the wall :(

If you don’t mind walking to/from the garage door by going in front of love seat (the reason for love seat not being against wall assume was wanting to walk behind?) I would move it back. Then everything can be shifted slightly, leaving room for a narrow console table and when accessorized it will be an attractive focal point

Do you walk behind the love seat to get to and out of those two doors? I think if the love seat was against the wall, you could walk straight out of one door and the other door could be exited in front of the love seat or the TV. Guess I am not seeing the wall the same as you are. As for the wall in question....a big piece of art will not get in the walkway.

I tend to agree that I would want to walk behind the loveseat to get to the other rooms and not constantly be feasibly walking in front of people in the seating grouping. I like it as is as it offers multiple traffic areas. it seems like a heavy traffic area. for the walls, I believe one very large piece of art on the wall in question would look fabulous. if you want a console, one behind the sofa as it seems like there is room there to have a console table. for the wall behind the loveseat, how about wallpaper, that way you wont have to worry about brushing by any art that is on the wall.

What about putting the love seat in the recessed area and the two chairs on the wall O' doors?

well, short answer: with couches placed as they are, you just want a large piece of art on that wall, so that it becomes decor for all adjacent spaces. if you make it vertical, you won't miss the imagined furniture.

Thanks Maureen - I'm afraid a sideboard would take up too much of the walking space. That was my original idea though. I'll look at the bench you suggested!

here's a slim cabinet from all modern. could be used to store extra glasses, candlesticks, etc. or booze.

do searches for "shoe storage cabinet". they're really slim, designed for narrow hallways. if you didn't want to use it for shoes, it could maybe be used for linens or something. (these two shown below are from ikea.)
