Update to my 80s Schizo Exterior

I'm not sure how to link back to the original post, but wanted to give an update and ask for a bit more advice. (Sorry if I'm posting incorrectly).

Ok folks! An UPDATE! and call for more advice!

After much deliberation we decided against painting the brick. Too expensive and too much work. We sampled several different paint swatches (some suggested by you!) and opted for a dark gray with a hint of purple (I know, I know, the majority said no to gray, but we really liked it with the red brick. And we are pleased!). We just purchased modernist light fixtures in bronze https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00AINJ3F2/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o00_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1 and plan on replacing the double doors with simple, full light ones that should line up nicely with the adjacent plate glass windows. The effect will be similar to the wall of glass that is the back of the house--so you can see right through from front to back!

One of the biggest changes, however, is the elimination of the stone pillars in front! We just demo'd them and the difference is amazing. So much more light and the car port roof seems less oppressive. However, we need to clad the steel posts with something. Any suggestions? I was considering something much narrower than previous and maybe painted to match the house color? Would love to hear everyone's thoughts!

I think I would do a metal casing around the posts the same as the trim around the door. I have to say I do not love the gray but if you do thats all that matters. You need to not add another finish to the posts so pic whatever is already there somewhere if not the metal. IMO they need to be about 8" square. BTW I love the house . I hope all the back is the same color siding as the front. I am so glad you did not paint the brick that would have ruined this really cool house. Now you need some landscaping to add the right touch.

I am kind of loving this house. Its not my style at all but I would probably totally buy it. Just audacious and different. It honestly reminds me of a country club near where I grew up.

I would probably opt for a steel pillar with a nice matte finish on it, squared off in shape. Architectural and simple.

Hi, yes You are in a big hurry, but don't hurry too much. The house has good visual basics, we only have to free them using right color. I don't know why but I realised that You have to slightly lighten facade and repaint shutters to other not hot color, such as this color used in Deauville, the place of American Film festival is held yearly. This color is very stylish and its difficultm not simple, in its best way. Alternatively, You can use off-gray but for me its dull. Also, the basic columns of the fences are too slim. Use something to thick them as I showed on the sketch. I would leave them in whites and additional fences on stairs are needed. Also the backyard fence can be cleaned, polished and painted with this "Deauville green" color, it also would be very stylish and make a reference to a good taste)) Overall, I woulld use 2 colors + white fences. I even would not touch the bricks (You can wash them and cover with defence liquid), or You can make this other year. You have a lot of work this time so don't try to do ALL simultenously. You've got shakes and brick on the front and, what appears to be, vinyl along the side. Was the house built like this in the 1980's? If so, then just paint it all one color. Or remove the front brick and shingle and re-side. Or just re-side the whole thing in fiberboard if your budget allows. If you want to play with the roofline, then that's going to require some input from a professional (like an architect). I think painting it all one color is the answer. However, I am reading a book on Bungalows and Craftsman homes and they painted the upper and lower floors different colors specifically to make the homes appear lower and wider. So maybe that's an option--but you don't have a visual divider between the 2 floors on the sides so, again, I would just go with all one color. You don't need to make it look less like a dutch colonial, you just need it to look like the prettiest Dutch Colonial. You need nice landscaping.

@Beverly I've definitely pinned some of those images. I did some digging and the roof was installed in 2001 and is still in pretty good shape. Still, I will probably have to replace it in the next 5-10 years (its a very high end roof so estimated to last longer than 20 years) and can choose a different color. I love the color scheme below with the trim color, white brick, and roof. I don't know if it would work with the brown window cladding that the house has though. I don't have the time/money to paint those right now, unfortunately.

Sorry, forget my first post; misread the question. I think you should go for squared off beams painted the same color as your vertical siding.

You could box them in and paint them a matching gray. I would look into using a limestone, which would work with the brick. Square metal would also look good.

Limestone, but not as wide as these.
