Hardware selection.. got color samples from cabinet maker
Comments (14)I was really pushing the SS, then bought the orb to see what it looked like. wife and cousin (and another friend) vote orb. what you all are saying is exactly what I was thinking, the orb would be lost in the walnut. But now, I'm thinking that might not be such a bad thing. I am debating how much I want the hardware to standout. as far as what we have.. we have a peninsula that is open to a dining room with orb hanging light and the same on the opposite side with the eat in area of the kitchen. faucet is still up the air. at this point it is SS. I have a couple year old setup that I kind of planned on keeping since I haven't found anything I like better (not to say I like what I have). I have a hanging flowerpot pendant light over the sink that is bright red. other than that, all other lighting is recessed 6" cans with led retros in them...See MoreNeed help selecting Cabinet Hardware (Park Hills East)
Comments (17)Lily Spider and Carrie B - Thank you for the input. I think our hands are relatively small, so it will be interesting to feel some of these. I'm going to stop by the builders supply store tomorrow to get my hands on these and other suggested options. Erin Robbins - Thank you for the comments on the chandelier. I hadn't thought about how the kitchen may appear masculine - but you are correct. I selected the chandeliers because I really wanted something people noticed in the room as everything else was a really trying to keep a unified approach. The KD noticed that I had a need for symmetry and for things to tie together - but I also fight the boring accountant in me and need something creative. I'm glad for the chandeliers and the quartz is also an eye popper. The sample and the online image of the quartz just don't give it justice. It really is pretty. I would never had selected it, but I saw it installed at the appliance store and fell in love. Also, a much softer finish that the prior quartz I had selected which was darker and as you pointed out - more masculine. kiko - Thank you for the suggestion to consider the appliance handles. The only visible appliance handles will be the ovens. Just so happens the ovens were installed today. The oven handles are square and pretty beefy to the hand. Option 4 in the OP (JA-Delgado) gives the feeling of square, but softer. I'll post pictures of the oven handles. (Fridge and dishwasher are paneled; microwave is a electronic open drawer). Although, I just decided I cannot tell if the paneled refrigerator from Bosch I purchased comes with the handles. If it does that would be sweet; appliance handles are crazy expensive in comparison to all other cabinet hardware. sprtphntc - Thanks for your suggestion to also help narrow down the choices. Do you think it would make sense to have the island with a darker finish, but the same style/different finish on the perimeter. I'll look through your posts to see if I can find pictures of your kitchen. For finish, I was planning on satin nickel (I never mentioned that), but was also eyeing the J.Alexander brushed pewter finish. I'll get some samples in the various finishes and bring them into the kitchen to get a better feel. I wouldn't have thought about ORB - so I'll give that a try. In addition to the revitalize collection you suggested, I just found the Candler collection which has potential. blfenton - That prep sink faucet is very unique. I chose it because I'm hoping the folded up version of that means the faucet is less noticeable - but you may actually be right that people can't help be curious to play with the interesting faucet. Thanks for the vote on Delgado. It's been growing on me over the last 24 hours....See MoreHardware Selection for White Kitchen
Comments (22)if concerned, make sure your brass knobs/pulls are 'standard' hole sizes, so that you can change them out if need be. Then do what you love!!! I was going to say the same thing. Yes, I feel sure the gold-brass will go out of style, but you're talking about hardware. You can replace it all in one hour with the use of a screwdriver. It's not like we're talking about installing ceramic tile, which would be trouble and expensive to change. Worse come to worse, you could spray paint the gold handles. One thing to consider, if you're going trendy with the idea that you could easily make a change later. What type of hinges are you using? I'm asking this because when we painted our cabinets we got rid of old 1970s looking knobs ... and I was going to switch from antique brass to silver ... but we realized that it wasn't a matter of JUST changing the knobs because we have visible hinges. Faced with the need to change the hinges too, we bought new knobs in antique brass. Here's a visual of one kitchen with visible hinges (emphasized with red circle), another kitchen without visible hinges: There is a high degree of visual contrast between the white cabinets and the gold/brass hardware items. The result is that one's eye immediately goes to the hardware and stays there. And yes, it looks trendy and dated from the outset. I agree that the gold look is a big contrast, which stands out ... whereas the silver tones blend in and create a more calm, everything-blends-together look. I prefer the silver, but it's not my kitchen....See MoreKitchen Cabinet Hardware
Comments (6)I agree you should wait until the more difficult items like decorative lighting is chosen. Don’t worry about matching pulls to your SS sink and appliances. Go to showrooms that have pulls on display, and also look at lots of Houzz photos to see which ones appeal. I would try to find pulls that that do not have a lot of nooks and crannies cause they are hard to clean in the kitchen. Size-wise, a rough rule of thumb is that a pull should be 1/3 the width of a drawer. It is helpful to make aluminum foil templates in the sizes of the pulls you are considering and hold them up against your cabinets and drawers to see what looks good. I myself have Top Knobs Princetonian Collection in satin nickel. No nooks and crannies, has the kind of neutral appearance that goes in almost any decor, comes in a lot of sizes, allows enough space to get your fingers behind them. That is my personal taste, you need to see a bunch to see what appeals to you....See MoreTrish Walter
