I don't know what you decided about a runner. I've only read the first few replies. As usual, I'll most likely be the descending vote. I like my floors uncluttered...and I realize most people don't consider a rug as clutter. Maybe "busy" is a better word. It's just a cleaner look to me and I prefer it. You've got so much lovely art on the walls of your hall, it just seems to me that a busy runner would detract from the art. If you felt you needed something for warmth during our very short winters, I'd prefer a solid color

Here is a pic of the area of my oak floors (real oak) that is directly in front of my sink, dishwasher to the right. I refinished them 14 years ago, but have not touched them since. No rug there - that would be one more thing for me to clean, and I will say that my sister has one for her sink, and it gets pretty grungy before she can get around to getting it cleaned. I'd rather just take a towel and wipe up drips from the floor than have a rug in front of the sink absorb the drips until I can get to wash it. Also, my house is a no-shoes house. I am not saying you need to be whatsoever. I am saying I suspect it to be a contributing factor to my floors' good appearance. I do have several pets with nails that scramble around.

First, consider a gel mat ... rather than a rug (which you should expect to get dirty and may well be a stumble problem). Where are you placing it? In front of the stove ... as wide as the stove. In front of the sink ... as wide as the sink or as wide as the windows above the sink.

Thanks, Jan! I just snapped a couple additional photos showing the area at the front entry in relation to the front hallway where the runner is + a length shot of the runner. I measured from the door to the wall where the hallway starts and it’s 72 in. The length of the door across (not counting the molding on the sides) is 36 in. exactly. And the widest I could probably go without interfering with the air vent is 48 in. But i’m afraid to get one too big so that its too close to the hallway runner. shouldn’t there be some space? what’s the recommendation there? I also measured the width of the hallway and it’s 43.5 in. Given those measurements, do you have a suggestion on which entry rug and runner sizes would work best? Thank you!
