Pendant or no pendant lighting: Can you please help me decide?
Comments (20)Thanks for all of the input!!! It sounds like a pendant may not be in my future. I loved the idea of it but as I was looking at it more, I was worried that there might be too much going on there. I was having second thoughts and wanted to get opinions from all of you. Holly-Kay: we are planning on changing out the chandelier above the table to a bronze finish to tie in with the darker wood and fireplace things. But I see how a pendant above the sink might be too much. Snookums2: we removed the dark screens and it looks much better. I can't wait for everything to get started! I thought about tiling to the ceiling but wasn't sure since our cabs don't go to the ceiling. We are going to add a taller crown but nowhere near ceiling height. That may be the subject of another post. Nosoccermom: great idea about hanging a balloon. I don't have photoshop but maybe I could cut and paste something there and post again. Thanks for the suggestions!...See MorePendants length over vanity-please help
Comments (6)Jen K, thank you for the words of encouragement! The pendant is from Lowes. And yes, laughing has been getting us through a lot of this remodel! Hahaha! Lampert Dias Architects, thank you for your expertise. Your help is so appreciated. And especially thank you for the specificity of your answer. I would have been making the DH balance up there indefinitely, lowering and raising the sconces by an inch here and an inch there! :) Chris Smith, good eye! That is a Costco Vanity that we have had in the garage for a year and a half. We saw it, and scooped it up immediately. Hard to believe it has the real marble top, heavy duty wood base, soft close doors, etc, at the price it was! We will be changing out the hardware though, to better coordinate with our vintage style, chrome fixtures we got from Kohler. We tiled up a bit higher all around the entire bathroom, to accommodate the vintage style faucets, so we didn't use the marble backsplash that came with it. I included pics of the base from the front. The drop cloth is already in place to get up there and hang those sconces. I hope that answers your question. :)...See MoreHelp spacing pendants over a 86" island with 10ft ceilings.
Comments (8)For your kitchen island, if you're getting 2 pendants, we would recommend close to what you're thinking and doing them 30"-32" apart and at least 32" off from the surface. But for the size of your kitchen island, we would recommend 3 pendants and have them approximately 20"-24" apart. Please see attached images to get an idea of how far apart they should be. Hope this helps a bit!...See MorePlease help me choose 2 Pendants for 8 1/2 foot island
Comments (19)My experience talking with you, @Jan, and others about pendant placement has been tremendously helpful! I am so grateful! I would like to offer a thank you in the form of sharing a creative little trick that came to me today when I was trying to use @Jan's diagram to make the marks on the ceiling for the electrician. Those of you who have experience with decorating, probably have tricks like this and maybe what I came up with is not novel. But it was new to me and so I'll share it in the hopes it helps someone else. So here's the "trick": I had read that it's a good idea to use wrapping paper and cut out squares of the same diameter as your pendant and then place the squares on the floor where the island will be. So I cut out 19 inch squares and then I folded each square into a triangle, as you can see in photo. Next I snipped off the point of the triangle so that when you open up the paper and lay it flat, you have a little hole in the center of the square! So, armed with @Jan's diagram, my husband and I went to work on the floor where the island will be. The contractor had already marked the island off with tape. So all we did, was measure 15 inches from each long end, and at that point we placed one of the squares down on the floor. Next we took a pen and marked the center of the hole in the square. This represents the spot on the floor that's directly under where the electrician will put the center of the mounting plate on the ceiling. Then, to find where to put the mark on the ceiling, my husband used a laser and we marked the spot with tape! :)...See MoreRelated Professionals
