What to plant for blooms after first flush? (Longish)
Comments (10)Thank you so much for so many suggestions! I am going to read up on all these names. Before it was hard figure where to start. So many pictures in so many catalogs. And thank you so much for complements on my garden without having seen it. I am coming to love it. altorama, thank you and I will post pictures when I get a chance. Daylillies sound good but thats big research subject, almost as big as roses! estevinho, I have never thought of Rosa moschata, I am going to look into that. I planted 18 Darlow's Enigm along the edge of my front yard. It was a little fanciful but now they are in their second summer and the fragrance alone is magnificent. bunnycottage, I think hardy hibiscus and phlox are good ideas. Is hardy hibiscus the same as Rose of Sharon? By no means are you or anyone else being presumptuous. I know very little, thats why I ask for all this help here. erasmus, Thank you for so many flowers to think of. Your garden sounds very pretty too. york rose, thank you for so many things to think about too. anntn6b, thanks, I am going to look into the ramblers. Thanks again everyone. katyajini...See MoreSome of my first blooms for the season (pics)
Comments (10)And let me tell you, they don't let you forget 'em! They come back year after year, no matter what I do and spread like crazy within my bed! I love them in spring and have decided to just go with them and let them do their thing! But, I have to make sure they don't spread out onto the lawn!...See MoreMy first daylily blooms, and some ID help please
Comments (4)Your new blooms are gorgeous! Thanks for sharing back! I don't cut scapes off new plants & ALL of them have been just fine, coming back up with renewed vigour and usually more fans the next Spring. I do not ask the new ones to make seed pods, though, so I do dead head them after I've oohed and aahed over my new flowers *grin* marea...See MoreSome first blooms ever--and other first blooms of the season
Comments (4)Here's a fairly large Double Knock Out in the front yard--in the divider between my property and the neighbor's. Haven't had time to anything with it yet this year, so its looking a bit wild and woolley--and maybe lop-sided. I'll try to get some pruning done before the season is over. : ) Light blue irises came with the property when I bought my house thirty something years ago--don't know their name, but they bloom forever (for an iris). Another iris--name unknown. Sure is lovely. Here's a terrific fully packed white peony called Festiva Maxima--love that blood-red like marking in the middle of the blooms. I read somewhere once that this old classic is a good choice for more southerly gardeners, but I don't remember why. I have 4 of them. BIG blooms. Its getting so exciting now that things are nearly ready to bloom--can't believe the buds all over the yard--have never seen so many. Oddly, however, my hybrid teas are not taking over the show like they usually do. I thought with the mild winter we had, they would do terrifically well, but it seems the shrubs and floribundas are the ones doing best. But maybe that will all change in the next few weeks. This is about 3 weeks early for my roses--any of them--to be blooming. Kate...See Moremmmm12COzone5
