More isn't always better. This room works as is, you don't need to fill every nook and cranny with something.

Part of the issue is that your lamps are too large for the petite nightstands under them. The proportion there is off and larger nightstands would fill more space if you want to keep the lamps.

You are absolutely correct. The lamps are a keeper but the nightstands are under scale. Hence, if I’m going to replace, I think I’d rather have a desk of some sort for guests. The nightstands don't need to match, actually I prefer they did not. Seeking the fabulous Houzz community such as yourself to suggest material etc.... and if I’m on the right track. Thank you both.

Yes, rest is good. Generally my guests are still working and a desk or larger vanity area provides for their computers and private task space. Maybe there is a happy meet in between type of furniture that doesn’t scream desk but can function like one?

Maybe a campaign style table/desk.

Love the idea of a desk/night stand in a guest room. Beautiful bed but as stated, night stands are too small for lamps. It looks like you have room for a Bachelor’s size chest for nightstand and a desk of some type for other side. I think I would do desk on window side. Let me find some options. What is width of space on each side of bed? How high is mattress? Are you open to changing the pillows?

I agree with the idea of a desk. My guests usually bring their laptops or iPads and, at a minimum, need a place to recharge them. However, if you have a desk, you need a desk chair.

Good Morning, Flo. Here are two additional visuals of the room that may help a bit. The height of the mattress is 28" and the distance on either side of the bed is 66". The picture is a tad deceiving as there is 24" clearance between the bed and the wing chair too. I am open to replacing the lamps and/or nightstands but not the bedding. This bedroom set and wing chair is hubby's from a previous life. He'd prefer I leave it alone but is open to suggestion. It's my desire to give the room function, more of a collected look and a little bit of 'wow' without breaking the bank. Your assistance is greatly appreciated. Thank you.

Usually house guests appreciate some open table top space to put things on...if you can get a long narrow console to fit under the art...and a floor lamp by the chair...for laptop time or reading...that would allow bigger ...more decorative side tables ....on each side of the bed....the other thing missing is a tv...essential for watching the late nite or morning news to many people...

That’s great! I would love to replace the lamps. Their scale is way off especially with height of bed. I will keep budget as low as reasonable and put $$ where it counts most. I would like a photo taken straight on to the left of bed. Slide your chair aside and stand with back to wall. Then I can use for set up/mock up on that side. This is beautiful room and great size! Unfortunately, there isn't enough room under the painting for a console table but I do have a floor lamp next to the chair (although difficult to see). I've contemplated a TV, am open to the idea, but have found guests have been happy to stream on their computers. Again, thank you for your time and effort. I greatly appreciate it.

Here is better whole room mock up. I took color inspiration from what I think is your dark blue bed scarf. I also got brave and put a navy blue velvet lumbar pillow on the bed to tie everything together and add some texture. Enjoy!

Flo, you outdid yourself. When I awoke up this morning I did find magic in you transforming my guest bedroom into a welcoming retreat. How fabulous for me and other Houzz community members that appreciate your time, effort and design savvy. And yes, the mirror is the special piece that completes the space. The room now is inviting and warm. And btw, I can trace the price and supplier of all products except the chest with nail heads. Is that Wayfair too? Thank you, thank you.

One more thought. The blue colors on line aren’t accurate, so you will have to see if you like them together. Since they aren’t next to each other and there are other colors in between the pieces it should work. You might need to raise the mattress a little too. It is on the lower side. A low cost way to fix this is to get a deep box spring. That will raise the mattress easily. To keep the box spring from showing, you can wrap it in a fitted sheet that is dark blue. Dark colors recede from view! Keep us posted on results. So fun!
