Need help with floor and shower wall tile...gray and white
I want a gray and white hall bathroom. Color will be added with towels, art, etc. The tub will be a tub/shower combo with a glass door and a pony wall on the end with glass above. No window in the bathroom.
The tub will be white, and it will have 2 tile walls. I have yet to see the tub so I don't know how "white" the tub will be. I need to choose floor tiles and shower wall tiles, and I am leaning toward a 12' x 24' gray floor tile with very little "movement". I thought I would choose a shower wall tile with a little "movement". Maybe a marble look??? Bianca Carrara porcelain or something like that. I don't want a plain white tile for the walls. The bathroom is 12' x 7' and cabinets are medium oak stained. Probably chrome fixtures. Kohler sink is white and Toto toilet is white, unless the whites don't match. I may need to buy a Toto sink.
Also, how should I lay out the tile in the 12' x 7' bathroom? 50/50 staggered, none staggered, or 1 tile horizontal and 1 vertical? Would that last one be a lot harder to do?
What about the shower tile? What size? I want as little grout as possible.
Countertops undecided! Maybe a marble? If so, should it be a marble exactly like the shower tile?

Comments (20)Chiming in late, but wanted to say after reading the posts, gsciencechick, you never have to be embarrassed with us. We're are all here to help each other. Whether you have a big kitchen or small kitchen, old or new, we want to see it be the best it can be within each person's budget constraints. That said, I think your kitchen is very cute and has huge potential! alex's link to that white kitchen with the blue backsplash can give you the inspiration to take your kitchen in a direction without breaking the bank. As you search through the kitchen forum, you will see many people who have done amazing things to their kitchens all by themselves with paint and tile and light fixtures, knobs and pulls etc and are very pleased with the result. You'll get lots of good ideas here. Some you will like, others you won't. No one is offended if you don't take them and do them. Comments (14)Thank you everyone for your comments! We did a couple sample layouts tonight based on your advice, and we’re going to do the charcoal in the shower floor. If I can’t find a good quartz/etc remnant for the curb, we’ll do the large hex cut in half - with the darker gray grout we’re considering for the floor, I think it will look better than the white grout example I posted. Comments (7)DalTile should have matching white glazes. check w/them and see their subways and hex tiles. Tilebar.com often has matching white subways w/smaller mosaic sheets. you could try their site. Call and speak to Brittany over there. she can tell you. the outside floor doesn't have to match the shower subway tile exactly. it's fine if they're a little off. It's like painting the walls one white, and doing the trim in another white. They still work. White subway tiles do come in all sorts of white colors. I would suggest you get your floor tile first. take that white hex tile to an actual tile store and hold it up next to there white subway tile samples. make sure the subways you buy have the matching bull nose tiles for the edges. So get the floor first. (or, get the wall tiles first) and take them w/you to a tile store to match w/the other. If they're not exact, not a big deal! make sure too, your light bulbs in the room aren't too warm. they will cast a yellowish hue on the white....See MorePeke

Ignore the light white oak floor. It will be the last project we do. It will probably be stained a medium oak like the wood trim and door in the picture.
I thought I would like the darker gray tile until I found the light gray tile. I think the light tile has less pattern to compete with the countertop. Thanks.

3 years agoDCOF is greater than 0.42, so it is supposed to be good for bathroom floors.
I found more tiles.
Calacatta white
Dark gray only 1 size 12x24.
Marble look porcelain. Comes in 12x12, 12x24, and 9x12, so it could be used on the shower walls or on the floor. I don't think it will detract from the countertops.

3 years ago@Peke, which 12X24 floor tiles did u go with? I got these for my 10X8 bathroom and struggling with grout color. Wondering if you can share you choice.
