Actually, roofing should be done before guttering----but, the guttering can sustain a lot of damage during the roofing process. So removing the guttering is often necessary to do a roof. The soffits and fascias may need repair before installing new guttering, which is usually less expensive to do during the roofing job than alone. So, least expensive overall as well as the quickest way is to combine roofing and gutters.

Finally the rain has stopped in WA and the painter fit me in. My house in the above pictures was just painted in SW satin Ellie Grey with gloss Extra White trim. The front door was painted in gloss Tricorn Black which isn't as super shiny/smooth on the door as I expected. . This black is what I am planning on painting window shutters. The grey seems to coordinate with the blue cast in the roof I was worried about. The Ellie Grey seems kind of grey brown which I wasn't expecting in grey/non sunny light even though its not supposed to have any brown. They said it was neutral grey when I looked into it. The house used to be painted a nice yellow with white trim. Pictures above are the Hardy siding. I have a very hard time with change and I'm not sure about the house colors I picked. Front door doesn't look very smooth. What do people think of the color choices? I'm also getting new garage doors with Sherwood window inserts and getting new front steps. I'm thinking possibly Trex type material in grey and black for the stair tread and backs with possibly black metal stair railings. Does anyone have any stair pictures they think would look good? Is there a reason that you can't pick the gutter color that blends the closest to your trim color? I know that when the gutter company came out to our place, they had a color wheel of samples we flipped thru and held up to the house (that was already painted) and looked to see what matched the closest. There is no way that I would want to try and paint gutters...sounds terribly difficult, plus I can just imagine it peeling one day since painted metal can do that, or it just not stick well at all due to the coating they put on the gutters for protection. Are these DIY gutters or a professional install? If DIY, I still would think you should be able to have a good selection of colors to pick from. If not, maybe keep shopping around. I know on our install, there was not a price difference between colors. Even my copper colored downspouts against our cedar posts was priced the same! We did black gutters to match the trim, white downspouts to match the siding paint (except where against wood, we did a copper finish).

Hi Kathy, I can't comment on colors as I'm in my own color dilemma but both Sherwin Williams and Benjamin Moore have free programs on their websites where you can upload your picture and try different colors out. My problem was it was really hard for me to draw lines around things like window trim and gutters in order to color them but you may fare better since you are not painting the body of the home just the trim details.
