Despite safety controls and charm, I honestly can't see a reason these days for gas. It's dark and you need the light, or you don't. I see no problem mixing. Neither will passer by. The most important thing is scale and proportion relative to the entry An adequate clearance above the door : )

For your front door/entry area, I would put electric fixture. I would do black and select a body about 25% bigger than is shown in the photo. Has puts off heat and in an enclosed area like your indented front area I would not like that heat build up. Something traditional to coordinate with your lovely home. This one has matching wall mounted lights and post style.

odate a hanging gas lantern. Per code you have to have 12 inches from the top of the ceiling to the top of the fixture. Our shortest lantern in gas is about 28 inches. I have a feeling that would look to "dinky" on your front door! My suggestion would be either an electric yoke lantern there, and a gas post lantern (can make that one super grand!). If you do decide on copper finish, try to add a couple copper accessories somewhere to help integrate that copper. Maybe copper downspouts on gutters? Otherwise, it is going to look off.

Since your entry is in a little recessed area ......i would think one that offers light overhead as well as downward .....would light up the tiny area better...rather than a dark shadowed area overhead and lighted below...

I love the idea of copper gutters and downspirts but how do you run those with dental molding trim?

Hmm... I would not put gas in the back, as you actually want to see by the light most likely, I would also keep the post-electric so you have path lighting, and over your door, if you do not have another source of lighting, I would keep that electric as well. Gas is a lot of work, needs maintenance to keep the lines clear and is expensive to get into place, not sure how you draw it in through the brick?

I love gas lanterns, If I was to put them on your house they would flank the front door, so they would really sparkle as the show stopper.
