Actually that is a leather couch which started peeling .. but we barely used the couch so the cushions are still good and the couch itself has at least 2 yrs left in it.. so I added a slip cover and the throws. I cant take the throws off as they actually cover the parts where the slop cover didnt fit well ! :) and for the fake plant thing, doesnt it look tacky to keep fake plants? I dont mind them myself but I dont want people to feel that it looks s tacky...

It looks like the best thing is to start with a new 3 seat sofa. Since you have the TV above the mantle, we assume you want your seating positioned that way. Then you will want two chairs to go on the wall directly across from the slider. You also may like a rug? Below you can get a lot of great ideas from designs of ours. Note the furniture, rugs, end tables, pillows, lamps, artwork, window treatments, coffee tables, and various other decor accessories.

The two stories provide airiness, and you don’t decorate the air. So unless you have some massive piece that needs that height to fit, decorate like you would any other room that was a typical ceiling height…keep it at people level and just appreciate the vastness above.

WAIT and plan to redo the entire fireplace wall. The hearth is too high, the surround too short, and TV should be somewhere else. There are lots of ways to improve the overall vignette here, but they will be pricey. For now, you need 1/3 hardcover books that you can even pick up second hand. They can stand, lean, or stack lying down to support some other decor. The decor items should be large enough to be seen and identified from the seating. If you want more interest, wallpaper or paint custom cut pieces of luan or foam core to slip into the back of each shelf.
