Thank you All :) grandmaof3: wow what a great idea, didn't cross my mind at all, but I'd need a different TV stand, this one is 2" too wide (but that gives me an excuse to look for a closed one that will fit perfectly (LOL), the TV itself will fit right in . polly929: the Expedit is a bit deeper than the bookcase I have right now , but the possibility of hiding toys in bigger boxes is thrilling :) The bookcase is secured to the wall, we'll do the same with the tall cubbies, no worries! Glad to hear orange will look OK here, if I decide to do curtains, do I put the same exact ones on all windows though? Thought of orange Ikat print, not sure if that would be to much? I think mounting TV would be too much, but moving it to the corner is easier and more doable :) dedtired: that would be perfect for separating the entrance, as we have no entry area whatsoever, but I'd be very afraid of my toddler running into it :( pricklypearcactus: Thank you, the older rug didn't match the space too well, was to light, and after I put the coffee table on it, it looked even more off..I fell in love with the chevron, it definitely is staying for a while! I'll work on getting the TV cabinet that fits in the space and move the TV (the two walls are not even, as one would expect... The lamp looks very lonely and off in the corner next to the sofa, I think it's too flimsy, it looks way better tucked behind the chair (a new lamp in the works? :)) aktillery: Thanks :), I was thinking of making this table and painting it orange (cinnabar which is deep reddish orange), not sure it would be too much though http://ana-white.com/2010/11/step-side-table The rug is from rugsusa.com, I suspect it's the same rug though, similar price. The reviews on their website were either really good or bad, I'm very happy with it and got it for half price, they have 50% off sales fairly often :).

That's a difficult space. I would recommend it be broken up into two separate sitting areas, and you define that space with two smaller carpets. Otherwise you wind up with everything spread out and it will feel awkward to have any kind of conversation area (as the prior owner's layout attests to). I would use a loveseat / small sofa in front of the fireplace (facing it) as the anchor for one seating area, and then two chairs (probably swivels) in the corners by the fireplace. In the second space, by the bookcases, a pair of wing chairs with a table/lamp between them facing the bookcases. Get a loveseat or small sofa with a pretty back on it, such as the Hancock and Moore Redford sofa if you feel you can accommodate an 82" width piece in that spot. Hi Judy, thanks for visiting my post! 1. I hope this photo helps visualize what I mean. The green is where the couch currently sits and the red is where I would like to put the island. The blue is where I would like to put some sort of bookshelf or bench. 2. I was just trying to say I would like the living area to be as welcoming as possible when people enter the living space. Here is a layout for your room. This layout creates a 'foyer' for your space. When you enter there is a console table or cabinet against the wall with a mirror or art above. This cabinet can be overflow storage from the kitchen if required. The three seater sofa divides the foyer area from the living room space, it faces the TV that is placed on or above a console on the opposite wall and there are two lounge chairs added to form the conversation area. This provides an area for adults and children to exchange ideas and watch educational shows and movies together as a family unit. Place art or wall decor above the fireplace and adjacent to the dining table. Children grow up to be adults. Plenty of children were raised in homes that didn't turn their homes into a gymnasium. No ball playing in the house. That is an appropriate activity for outside. Balls leave skuff marks on the walls. Homes are created for the total family and not at the expense of the adults. OK, I will get off my soapbox now but you get the idea.
