In order for the curtains to look full and not skimpy when closed the purchased length should be at least 2X the width of the window. The most economical option would be to purchase multiple panels. Do you have enough clearance on either side of the windows? It would be a shame to block the view during the day.

If you don't have the clearance it makes sense to consider blinds instead of curtains.

Thanks we do have room on the sides. We also already have light filtering shades that are supposed to filter out 99% of the light. However there's still way too much light that comes through in the morning especially since the sun rises right in the window. We need blackout curtains in order to be able to sleep. They would be mostly pulled during the day so I'm not too worried about how they would look when closed. I'm afraid panels wouldn't work because light might come in where the two panels meet.

It all depends on your budget.

You could order one long custom panel but having all that weight and bulk on one side of the rod during the day might be too much for the rod and make your room look off-balance.

You could order two panels and install a traverse rod which would allow the curtains to overlap in the middle a bit. Or get some magnetic tape to be sure the two panels connect in the middle. You can get a motorized traverse rod as well.

yes 2 panels that meet in the middle is what I am thinking but where do I find those that wide? Also very hard to find blackout rather than just room darkening. Budget is not that much of a problem.

I just Googled "110 96 blackout" and came up with a bunch of options. Here are a few options at Home Depot.

I looked on Home Depot earlier today and did find one 100" wide and one 112" that might work. That isn't close to 2x the window width though ( 180 x2=260) 2x 112=224. Also the 180 measurement doesn't include extra on the sides just the window itself. Would that be wide enough?

Your rod should be at least 230 to 240 inches to allow for stackback. If you want two panels, to be wide enough to close, you're probably going to have to go custom or get several to have enough.

Contact a decorator. They can get you the custom made curtains.
