Wild raspberry identification?
Comments (2)Sounds like wineberry. They are Japanese raspberries that have naturalized in eastern US. Regarded as invasive as it will run like all raspberries but I don't find them hard to contain. The fruits ripe at the same time as my blackberries and they are very tasty for fresh eating or baking. You won't find the fruits at markets because they don't store well. They fruit on second year canes so if you cleared everything off last year you won't get any this year. But if you let the new growth grow out this year you will have berries next summer....See MoreRaspberries gone wild
Comments (2)That's what raspberries do. I let the ones on the edge of my mulched area stay, but ones further out into the grass get mowed down. The ones growing into my pathway behind the patch get pulled, or I wouldn't be able to get to the patch anymore. Some of them get rescued and I've given away a few, but I don't bother trying to transplant most of them back into the patch as I've already got a lot in there. So it's really up to you as far as how much room you want to let the raspberries have because they'll take as much as you're willing to give....See MoreWild Raspberries
Comments (7)I temporarily planted some in my cottage garden, with the intent of putting into a permanent bed. Well, I did transplant them. But, they do not produce enough fruit to be worth the trouble. No matter what I did, not much fruit. I got canes canes canes and more canes and healthy too. But not much fruit. And the horrible thing is.... now I got canes coming up alllllll oooooooooover my cottage garden and cannot get rid of them all. Worse than Johnson Grass they are. Go and buy good healthy domestic canes. Those produce fruit. PVP...See MoreWild Blackberry? Raspberry? Thorns o-death?
Comments (3)Thanks guys - there are a few just over the fence in the neighbor's yard that hadn't been mowed, and they have berries on them. They are shorter than I thought blackberries would be, and are covered with small bright red and shiny black bugs. They're kind of scary looking - not sure if we want them around if they come with the bushes....See Moreken_adrian Adrian MI cold Z5
