I have a clivia about twelve years old that looked like this one year when I procrastinated too long in the Fall, and didn't bring it in until a light frost hit it. I just trimmed back the leaves to the healthy part, and saw no ill effects. To be on the safe side, in case this is not the problen, I would moisten a cotton ball or cloth with alcohol and wipe off my cutting tool after each cut and dispose of the leaves in the trash, and not in a compost bin.

Alina, I have seen the same thing in some of my clematis--ie the lower leaves turn paler and yellow and finally brown out. This has never been due to lack of water and I attribute it to the fact that some clematis just develop this way. Those bare legs are just a hazard with some clematis cultivars. In some plants, the older leaves are covered up by new leaves and the older ones just turn light and fall off. If the clematis in question is growing very vigorously then perhaps it could be a nutritional deficiency where the plant doesn't have access to or the ability to take up nutrients fast enough to keep up with all the new growth.

I'd say just transplant shock, DrBasil. Just keep watering and fertilizing. You should see new flush appearing, shortly. Patty S.

Hi, I have this passion flower vine that was growing very healthy, but lately it's starting to lose its lower leaves after they yellow. When I touch them they just fall off! It also has some small white spots in the healthier leaves and I've noticed some spiderwebs in the base of the plant from time to time... It's also a very thirsty plant, It needs approximately 1.5 litre everyday! I'm from Greece and its very hot and humid in my city. I know it seems like a nitrogen deficiency but I wanted a second opinion before I fertilize it with my 30-10-10 fertiliser, because there are some young vines growing in the same pot and they propably get burned. (as shown in pictures - they are from seed not from the main plant). This is a very lucky plant and I was amazed to see it survive serious underwatering, extreme heat and cold its first year in a very small pot. When I started treating it better it payed off, but now something is obviously wrong and I don't want to mess it up...
