Two Seedlings... 1st time bloom!!
Comments (35)Well, here we have the second seedling. Exotica x Lady Jane. Not really an improvement on either of the parents, sort of looks like a single Lady Jane. There are 3 flowers, the first two came out simultaneously and the 3 is much smaller copying Lady Jane's habit of displaying 2 flowers at a time. the scape is 9" so she takes after her father in all respects including the shorter scape. Oh, and as you can see, I was wrong, she wasn't a double. I'd rather a single than a partial double anyway so I really wasn't disappointed too much..I guess these two flowers were too similar to each other to come up with anything astounding but, maybe one of the other seedlings will look better. Not much difference regardless of what light I take her in, flash or no flash.. Donna...See MoreSeedling Surprises (photos)
Comments (9)Debra.. I love your seedlings.. they are all so bright and cheery.. and especially the pink one.. I am currently in a pink phase so I will be happy to give that baby a home. My EXOTIC CANDY is more pink than peach though. Freaky Babe may be having flash backs from the dog digging.. ready to take flight with her stepal propeller! I have had a seedling bloom from two dark eyed/edged parents with NO sign of an eye...or an edge..I even looked back in the parentage to see how far the eye went.. several generations.. but Mother Nature has her own ideas. They are all lovely Shelly...See MoreThis seedling really surprised me.....
Comments (11)Well, so much for my sneaking in as an unknown. You guys are sharp. Thanks for the kind remarks on my daylilies. Michele--a pigeon loft is a building where I raise show pigeons. I have trophies and ribbons I have won with them. I have been raising pigeons for over 50 years. My secret for growing large hostas?==I cover the plant with fresh pigeon manure right on top of the snow. By the time the weather warms up the manure has seeped into the ground and the hostas simply do marvelous. I think Chicken or Horse manure would have the same effect. Comments (5)I also planted San Marzano's this year. It's my first year trying them. San Marzano Organic Tomato seeds used. I started them in peat pots, which may have attributed to their slow growth (or are they always slow growers??). After about 2 weeks, they got transplanted to 16 oz plastic cups. They are currently about 4 & 1/2 weeks old. They took a week or so after transplanting to re-root and have started growing again, still somewhat slow though (hard to tell right now...another week or so & i'll know if they are growing at a normal rate). They seem to be a slightly complicated one to grow & appear to require lots of care. As soon as I figure anything else out, i'll let you know. =) I grew them for sauces, canning & cooking.
