Scary wasp-like critters in tomato planters
Comments (8)HI Back Farkee, Thanks for the lesson on bees. ItÂs been about 35 years since I collected my first beehive way out in the Ouachita Mountains with a 12 ft crosscut saw that we used to cut down 3 ft diameter hollow oak tree, to get the honey felt bad for the bees so we took them home in a big ole box with the queen and made a new home for them. It started a new hobby that ended up with me building about 20 hives with supers an all I really liked the ones that I made so you could put up honey with the comb in the jar " big seller after church" They helped pollinate our 5 acre garden and about 100 fruit trees. Now the bumble Bees are a nice lot too but you would have a hard time convincing my poor old departed Mom or Dad on them and yellow jackets. We had a big colony of the bumbles start under the cow feed we had stored in the barn that took off after my Mom, It looked like one of those cartoon bee clouds they all went up into the air and converged and came down right on top of my Mom she must have been stung 50 times I was young and skinny at the time so I could get out of the way sort of used mom as a sacrifice she got pretty mad at me for not helping her and she stayed swollen up for 2 weeks. Aint no way I was gonna stay around for that HAD TO GET RID OF THOSE BUMBLE BEES. Had a big nest of under ground yellow jackets get my Dad the tractor was way too slow he finally jumped off and ran with heart trouble and all glad it didnÂt kill him he sent me out later to get the tractor with a gallon of gas to pore down the hole they came from. IÂm getting to old fat and slow to fight waspÂs beeÂs hornets and such so IÂm with you they are mostly a good bunch of guys so I just leave them alone. IÂm not scared of them at all. DonÂt know what made that particular bunch so mad it must have been that gas had sky rocketed to the unbelievable price of 35 cents a gallon. Every body have a great Fourth of July. Comments (4)This appears to be a species of Cellar Spider. I love these things. They'll eat other spiders and dust mites, you know, and they absolutely will not bite people. I've handled many of these, and have about half-a-dozen that are permanent residents of my classroom at school, where they lurk in cabinets and in darker corners. The students all know what they are, and they've even gotten brave enough to pick up any "strays" that wind up displaced from their webs. These babies will even eat Brown Recluse spiders, which ARE venomous to humans, and are common in many other parts of the school, except in MY classroom, for some reason. Comments (22)Yes, Luvs, I've been adding a few witch things to my Halloween stuff. I'm really not into all the usual stuff like ghosts n goblins, jack o' lanterns, etc. but I do love witches and ravens. And of course witches have kitties. LOL. How neat, Kathleen, that you (and Candy) also got married in 1970. And Jane, you ate at the Outback too. ;o) Plus, Nana, some of us really like Dancing with the Stars. I think Candy previously nailed it about our Holiday gang having so many little things in common outside of just holiday decorating. Even the same furniture, or same figurines. Maybe this is why we seem more of a family, or a group of really long-time friends. Time, and distance, matters little it seems, some people are just meant to come into your life and make you feel like kindred spirits. I am always in awe of our group here, and the closeness/caring we share so easily with one another. I doubt any of us expected this when we found this Forum, we just wanted to share some Holiday decorating! ;o) By the way, here's the flowers Jas and Suz sent...and the two dolls I kept from my Mom's collection. These dolls come named, so that is Victoria on the left and Rebecca on the right. The photo is my Mom when she was in her early 20's, and the cat pair are very old figurines I found at an antique show about 25 yrs ago. (My mom loved cats) hugs, Karen...See MoreGood scary movies for Halloween?
Comments (42)I was so anxious to contribute our favorites that I missed the decision for Twilight Zones and ,Addams Family. Have a good time celebrating! We will be at an outdoor performance of The Legend of Sleepy Hollow on Saturday night, but tonight will find me watching Ernest....there's a scene in the movie that cycles through all his many characters, including the Miami matron, that I look forward to every year, and Eartha Kitt is at her scariest in this one :-). Happy Halloween, everyone! ðÂÂÂð»...See MoreElizabeth
