adding washer and dryer to existing bathroom
Comments (5)Thank you both. I won't pretend to understand, but I looked up dfu so now know something more than I did. The existing tub (not sure why the original owner/builder put in a separate tub/shower) will have a shower added, so would that be considered just 2 DFUs or do I have to double that because it is a combo shower/tub? The drains from the room are separate of course, but I assume they meet up somewhere under the house to go to the septic. Would I still be okay DFU wise, if the drain size meets code? I thought a lot about the venting as that is one of the reasons I want to move the w/d. Now the outside vent is under the deck and there is no way to clean it out except hiring someone to get in the crawl space and do it. I want it where I can access it outside. If I need to get a fantech dryer booster fan to accommodate the 6.5 ft of dryer hose, I can do that. Thanks again....See MoreMaster Bathroom Remodel - Layout Help!
Comments (1)I’m not understanding all of your layout. Do you have a plan of the whole floor? But if you can close off that door past the washer and dryer, add a sink there and toilet in front of the other closet (obviously change the door), it would be similar to but even bigger than my powder room/laundry closet, which works great....See MoreBathroom Add-on / Remodel - Input needed
Comments (8)The 5 foot turning radius is only important for public access. If a person needs a wheelchair, it is always possible for the person to get a zero turning radius wheelchair, so only a 32" turning radius is needed. More important is a roll-in threshold for the shower, adequate access for the toilet area, and either a door that opens outward or a sliding door for the toilet compartment. Also allow for a roll-up sink. When I remodeled my bathroom, I added a sink to the toilet compartment that could easily be replaced with a roll-up sink should the need arise. Another thing to consider is to allow for things like soap and shampoo and other shower toiletries to be accessible to someone in a seated position....See MoreHas anyone run into an issue with putting a washer/dryer in a bathroom
Comments (12)We've had w/d in the master bath for 22 years. We love it. No negative issues. We do have an exhaust fan in the bathroom. The moisture in the room is vented outside and has not corroded our appliances. This is an add-on master bath we built and had all inspections done and passed. I don't remember it being a hurdle to clear, but maybe the building codes have changed since then. We have exhaust to outside dryer. We used to have Fridgeidaire/Electolux dryer in place, no heat added to the room. Now we have Hotpoint/GE dryer and it does add heat to the room. This is welcome in the winter, but in the summer it can make a warm room a bit hot as suezebell mentions. (we don't have A/C) The heat issue probably depends on the dryer itself. All the dryers I've had in my life have added heat to a room, except for the Fridgedaire/Electrolux model....See Moremynovahome
