Design Dilemma Kitchens living room

We are remodelling our kitchen and adding an island. Would you put a square or an l-shaped island in that kitchen? Also, what would you do with the space in the living room ? We are planning to take out that old fireplace altogether and leave it as is.

That's a little bit of a tough configuration to decide on an island shape given all the boundaries you are running into with door, windows, and bump-out. In fact, I am really at a loss to say much on this one aside from moving one of the doors so you can expand your kitchen in another direction or even move the placement of it entirely like over in front of the bay window area, which is probably out of your budget. Maybe someone else will be able to comment more constructively. I would like to see you be able to do a large island given that you're knocking down a wall to facilitate this changing up, but right now all I am seeing here is a smaller square.

Is that opened wall load-bearing? Are you planning to remove it entirely? Have you had a professional builder or architect in to assess your plan and the structure itself?
“We are planning to take out that old fireplace altogether and leave it as is.” If you take out the fireplace you aren’t going to leave it “as is”.....you will need to rebuild that wall, too.

It probably seems odd to put back part of the wall that you removed, but that is what I propose. The new short wall would serve to: 1 - hide the refrigerator (usually the least attractive appliance - which I changed to a 30-in counter-depth one btw). The refrigerator is a little out of the way from triangle work space goal, but I think it is worth it to have a kitchen that is pretty to view from your living and dining areas. Along those lines, the refrigerator would be in a full-height and full-depth cabinet. 2- enlarge your pantry to a nice size, with pretty narrow doors that open for full access. 3 - on the living room side, give you back some needed wall space. If you keep a layout similar to what you have now, your large chair or loveseat will not overhang the wall. On the range side of the plan, you could leave the cabinet run exposed, or add a narrow wall there are well. Note that I guessed on a few dimensions, and did not have a scale handy, so I free-handed the drawing. You would want to "field-test" it for sure.

Its hard to tell the depth/distance, especially from the wall the dog food is to the back of the sofa. I also feel like you could afford to back up the sofa bit more. I think you could have the best of both worlds in the nook area with bench under the left window and a small table with chairs, you might be able to get a chair and an end table next to the door on the right.

its large enough you can bring in botanical patterns or geometric patterned textiles. Color of your own choosing. The far wall w fireplace and clock in the living room would be nicer if lighter. You could take the same hue just lighter. It looks a little dreary/nearly gray which is going to be yesterday's aesthetic if not already...... then almost any color scheme would be nice or neutrals for that matter. More I look at it...ceiling is not high..I'd lighten that wall...others walls if you feel like it , and work w neutrals. Just a pop of blue for accents...or green....enjoy your new home!!!!

No it is not. We are removing it all entirely. I should have mentioned that before. And yes, we are rebuilding the wall where the fireplace is.
