Type of bushes?

I was wondering if anyone knew what type of bushes are in this picture, particularly the yellowish ones? How and when do I prune them?

Dwarf nandina. No need for pruning yours is evident at this time. What the planting does need is some variation in height and shape - the way it is now it all looks basically the same, except for leaf color. A long low house with a long low planting in front.

you have a nice bed there ...

i would make a 5 year plan.. and remove and redo the whole thing ... shorter.. if you have the will and the budget ...

and i would remove anything that encroaches on the foundation ... like that one under the left window.. unless that is a camera pic ...

dont know where you are.. so cant recommend plants ...

i would try to get some verticals in there.. but nothing with potential to get to far over the house ... which will be tricky ...

I'm a sucker for lilac pink, many-petalled roses such as Harlow Carr and Huntington's Souvenir d'un Ami. As for the bush, my Angel's Camp which is very dense and full, nothing gawky or awkward, that would be my ideal. But, I also love the arching, graceful form of a rose such as Mutabilis, ditto it's many colored single flowers. Gold roses are another great love, such as Lady Hillingdon, although she's so gawky for me. The climber is much superior, although I saw a picture on the forum recently of a bush Lady H. that made me green with envy. Overall the tea roses are my favorites but you didn't ask for a whole group so see the above. Oh, and how could I forget, lilac and purple roses of any kind, but especially the flowers of Wild Blue Yonder. Ingrid

just an aside ... all dried flowers.. are potentially seed pods ... if the plant is not sterile ... in general ... shrubs are rooted .... growing from seed would be a very long process ... to a good sized plant ... not all will root... many will .. others are by digging suckers ... etc i just noted this is the second post about seed pods ... and wanted you to know there are other options to propagation... if thats your goal ... i dont know this plant offhand ... once you are given the latin name.. add the word propagation and google it up ... kenb

Thanks all. Very helpful. It faces East and I’m in Northern Virginia. Do you think hydrangeas would do well in this spot? Gets a lot of sun but not in the late afternoon.

I doubt Hydrangea paniculate would be sun burned there. But all hydrangeas need moist soil.
