Comments (7)We used Eurostone Craft in Chantilly as fabricator for our new build. I worked with Meg. The entire experience was fantastic. I visited all of the suppliers joaniepoanie listed. Our white fantasy came from Marble Systems and our carrara came from NSI. Marbles Systems was great - make an appointment for better service. NSI was not nearly so pleasant, but I loved the stone, so what can I say? Eurostone's fabrication and installation was flawless. Eurostone has lots of slabs in stock, but not exactly what I was looking for....See MoreGranite fabs in NoVA?
Comments (12)I used to be a partner in a kitchen and bath store in Sterling I got mad at the partner and pulled out and moved to florida. You are waisting you time talking to someone who will not give you prices per square foot. It probably means you are not talking to a fabricator and instead talking to someone who sells them the stones for a undisclosed price. Most companies sell the stones in groups called levels. Honestly it is an annoying system. Each stone has a exact price per square foot as a cost when you buy the actual material as a fabricator. They group the stones into levels. CIA Counter Intelgence lost the account from Depot a while back for reasons I am not educated on. Before you buy from anyone check their better business buea. rating. If price matters most put an add on craigslist and many guys will contact you. You should get level A 10 colors or so to chose from between 30-40 / square foot another 10-15 colors at least for 40-50 and another 20 colors in 50-60 range. If you are going to get a life time guarantee on the sealant make sure it is backed by dupont or Cosentino or other large corporate name. Other wise it is a gimic and if the fabricator is out of business so is you supposed warranty. Unless the sealant is polymer/ type of glue based it will wash out with time. Most sealers are silicone based which washes off with mild soap over time not matter what anyone says. Esos Marble and Granite does good work but you have to push them to get contractor pricing to get it at a good price. It is a game to all of these stores do not think you are getting a better price if you buy from a fabricator instead of going thru a kitchen and bath store you have to get multiple prices to see who is doing you right. You should be able to call anyone and say you want a certain color and you have 45 square feet with 1 sink and what edge you want and expect an exact quote over the phone. they will measure the kitchen to confirm the square feet but the cost per square foot should remain the same. Expect prices over the phone for common colors or a call back if it is less popular and exotic. You can weed out a lot of BS if you make several calls to see what they say....See MoreQuestion and recommendation for those in DC area
Comments (6)We were recommended by our contractor to try Luck Stone and Marblex. Both were outrageously expensive with little selection. Luck had a few slabs in the yard. Their primary business is done from the 10 or 15 well known granites like Verde Butterfly and Uba Tuba. For those, we were quoted prices 3X what other dealers were quoting. We talked with Dominion Granite and Marble at a home show. They were super knowledgeable. One of the owners has grown up in the business and has relationships with suppliers all over the country. They sent me to several suppliers, but we found our slabs at Daltile in Chantilly. Dal was very professional and kind. They even let me "visit" my slabs every time I went to Costco (which is right across the street). They said they get that all the time and made me feel like I wasn't being weird at all. Dominion did a superior job on our countertops. The only seam that is visible is bookmatched and just looks really cool. The installers custom matched caulk or whatever it is they stick the seams together with so that the seams would blend in. Our granite has a large gold river running through it and they templated it so that it ran over the counters in the most beautiful fashion. They also never tried to upsell anything, in fact suggesting that I go with the less expensive eased edge over bullnose because it highlights the thickness of the tops better. Very professional all the way around. Oh, and they offer a lifetime warranty. Does it get any better? Comments (89)My experience in selling our house in Oct 2009 was atypical for our area ( nothing was selling in out area or neighborhood, but I think will relate to your situation. The house was built in 1990. I have not read all of the responses but here goes. We painted the entire house to a neutral walls and white trim because it needed it. We did not paint the brick FP. We removed the wall paper in the FR but left the wainscot and folk wallpaper in the Kitchen and Bfst nook. Realtor had a cow and said house would never sell, but this still looked great. Maybe not HGTV but I was tried of taking wallpaper down... We replaced all of the carpet- bedrooms, finished lower level and FR- with a neutral flat more commercial berber from HD. Because it needed it and looked worn. This was cheap with free install. We had already moved out of the house and the upstairs had no furniture but all the windows all had white wide slat wood blinds. The living room had my Persian area rug and the piano. The dining room had a garage sale round dining table with a floor length canvas drop cloth for the table cloth and four black dining chairs. Oh and an ivy plant in the center. The family room had my old sofa with a white slipcover and my old leather ottoman with a copper tray on it. Oh yeah and two throw pillows. I changed out the kitchen knobs. I spray painted the light fixtures bronze, these were cheap shiny brass. Our house was spotless. Inside and outside and empty except for the mentioned items. The realtor listed it on a Friday night and it was sold by 7pm Sat night to the first people who looked at it Sat am. For asking price. Within 5% of two comps. We became friends with the buyers as we built a house on our adjoining property and they said they chose our house because it was newly painted and had new carpet so they didn't have to do that. They loved the wallpaper in the kitchen but immediately changed out the kitchen knobs. They wanted to buy my "dining set"... This house was under $500.000 and we spent under $3,000 to do the carpet and I did the painting. I will say that if the house was a more expensive and more upscale neighborhood, I would still have emptied and minimally staged. Nobody is buying your décor and even if you have to pack up and put everything into storage and live like Spartans I would do that at least. When we started cleaning it became apparent that the paint and carpet needed to be done. Once a house is emptied unless its newly painted even if clean it still can look grungy IMO. Sometimes people give a painting cash allowance at closing - that might suffice for some buyers. Most of the staging/updating I believe if for a certain price point. You know to help buyers choose between several closely comparable properties. If your home is appealing to a certain demographic because of a higher price then wouldn't those buyers want to pick their own flooring, paint colors fixtures etc?...See MoreAglitter
