Shutters that will make you shudder!

Hi!

Looking for input on the horrible shutters on our 1920s home. We've lived in the house for many years and looking to make changes to the exterior. Our roof was damaged in the March tornadoes and a new roof (GAF Weathered Wood) will be installed within the next two weeks. In addition, we are stripping the old tongue and groove porch ceiling, and plan to repaint the porch including the trim and column. The wooden handrail has been removed all together. Would love ideas on what to do once we remove the shutters. The siding is aluminum and for now will remain white. Should we paint around the windows? Just remove the shutters and leave the aluminum trim as is? Or any other ideas to break up the wall of white? Thanks!
