cost/quality of quartz manufacturers
Comments (63)jpdunlop- My post above has an old link to the NY Times with plenty of articles on Chinese products and recalls. Let's not pretend that Chinese manufacturing practices are the same as in the US, or the products they use to produce these cheap as possible goods have vigorous safety standards. Does the US produce junk? Of course- every country does. But no other country seems to produce as much "unsafe" junk as China. Of course it's up to the individual, and based on how popular Walmart and it's ilk are, we'll continue to import the crappiest of the crap, because we want the cheapest of the cheap, and just take our chances. But if I don't absolutely need to buy Chinese made or sourced, which is nearly impossible these days, I won't - my choice....See MoreHoned quartz help!
Comments (158)Just got new Pental Quartz Misterio honed counters, which are white with a grey veining very sporadically. I hate them and so regret this decision! Nothing was ever disclosed to me by the store or the third party stone vendors that honed finish would have all these problems. Scuff marks from anything metal - the entire area around the sink is scuffed from washing pots and pans. Last week I laid some mail on my countertop and picked it up a couple hours later and the ink from something is now imprinted on my counter! I tried Fantastic (which is what the stone company recommends) , Mr Clean Magic Eraser, Clorox Clean Up spray, Windex, Acetone finger nail polish remover (also recommended by the stone company) and nothing will remove the imprint. The counter absorbs everything. I am petrified of spaghetti sauce, or red beets, or curry sauce, or a pen. I went back to the home improvement store I contracted through and asked about having the counters sealed and they said they already were! How can this be? If that is true, this product should never be sold for use in a real home. I am just sick with having spent this much money on such a huge mistake. DO NOT EVER INSTALL HONED COUNTERS IN A REAL HOME KITCHEN THAT GETS USED!!...See MoreI think my quartz sample is trying to drive me crazy
Comments (77)I think it might work great, but white is tricky since the white of the countertop won't exactly match the white of the subway tile/cabinets. A very light grey would be probably be easier to match, although I don't know if that color scheme would be as timeless as all white. We ended up going with no backsplash (!!) and just the light grey walls. But I love an all white kitchen - and I think you might have the not-quite matching issue with most countertop color options (unless you go with a darker counter, I guess)....See MoreCaesarstone Honed Pebble - Photos, please
Comments (22)Thanks - Headed over to your new thread now. Our update: Saw the polished pebble and ruled it out - didn't feel right for our home. Now leaning toward marble lookalikes, but eliminated Frosty Carrina from the running - veins too subtle. Very impressed with Calacutta Nuvo and also Pental Onixaa. Both look very realistic, but the Pental might be too greyish. Pental had some fabulous honed surfaces in colors similar to Pebble, but like Caesarstone, they warn about stains and fingerprints. Our indecision has led to a delay in our very small project. We are now waiting until Jan because we can't get the hood for our Bluestar hood until mid Dec. In a way I'm relieved because a) it will be less stressful without a kitchen after the holidays and b) new products seem to be coming out every day....See MoreAmy Q
