Well, here is a guess. Your woodland soil (believe it or not) is a little too acidic. I had the same thing in a particular part of my garden and am still correcting it. Check your soil pH to see if it is in the proper range. Why is that important? Camellias need to be in the pH range of 5.0 - 7.0 or else they have a hard time taking up nitrogen (for new growth) and other nutrients. They just sit there stagnant. No blooms, no growth, no fun. In my case, I discovered the pH was very acidic (4.3!) which turns out to be not so uncommon in some coastal woodland soils. Once I hit it with a shot of dolomitic lime, bingo, the plants started putting on new growth and buds. But don't take my word for it, check the soil first to be sure, and to see which direction on the pH scale to go. (The other alternative is, maybe it is too alkaline, but that is doubtful in a woodland setting.) It may even be something else, but my guess is, it's got to be the pH. I definitely wouldn't try to move it right now, it sounds like a good location. And don't be shy about getting some more. The pH is easy to adjust.

It's quite the pupper, Karen. Love how easy these plants are and how they reward us for doing so little. And love the G. distichia. Like I do with Aloes, I like the long-leaved, more "grassy" choices...haven't gotten any, but they remain on the list. That also gives me a sense of how long I could wait for a new plant from a leaf, if I were to try. I'm rooting for the survival of that plant, Jeff. Its pups will be great. It will be great. Thanks Daylily Dreamer, It doesn't look like yours although when I have searched on the web for photos of Apple Tart they can all look very different from one another. The petals on mine are kind of ruffly like your Christmas Time. She could have mixed the name up. I bought one named Tropical Sunset(supposed to be orange) and discovered it was Tropic Sunset and quite pink! Anybody have a photo of Christmas Carol?

Michelle- We must have cross posted. Her pictures, to put it bluntly, are terrible. When I was there last year picking up my daylilies (only 20 minutes away) she showed me newer pictures of many on her computer and you would not believe the difference. If I remember correctly, most of the pictures are scanned in from copies of copies because thats what she had to use at the time the website was done. I know personally that they are truely lates and not just listed as lates as her garden is local to mine and that bloom in August there will be August here. Not sure how it would work out way down south but at least they would bloom after most of the others.
