Lala, deep clean. Getting rid of some of my kids' things that they don't want that are also stored in my house.

Hopefully, you're trying to give away things that others will use. That's a big container to fill with completely unusable things to go to a landfill!

The stuff that's usable I will put at the end of the road but no most of the stuff is broken or worn out.

What a good feeling to purge useless stuff. I remember when I had a dumpster for a kitchen renovation, I cleaned the attic of a lot, including a crib that no longer met safety standards. It was great. Enjoy!

About 10 years ago we did the same. Our city will pick up all items on curb. If we have large items ,you notify and they send another truck. First we called Habitat and they took all the usable items. Had organ, living room,four bedrooms , entire kitchen and dining room. Habitat brought three huge trucks and took all the furniture. We took the rest to street and city sent a crew to pick up. We had stuck things in our basement that was really of no value to anyone and also we had garage to empty. When city crew arrived and saw we were older they started helping us get everything in their truck. By the time we had finished and walked back in our home, we were saying wow ,we didn’t realize what a big house we lived in. The only thing we couldn’t get rid of was a player piano. It weights a ton. We have offered it for free , hard to find a taker as it weights a ton. Looks like we may have to pay someone with “Got Junk” to take it away. We still have the player rolls and it is perfectly tuned. Too bad I haven’t found a great home for it yet. Bottom line it’s great to be able to get rid of the old and in with the new. In our old age, it’s wonderful living with sparse amount of furniture and clothing. Our home is so easy to clean now. Oh looking back at other post. Realized we cleaned the entire attic and the baby bed was last used over 50 years ago. We made sure it was trashed as it was totally unsafe . It felt very good to get rid of items we no longer needed.

You are going to be very busy if like here your rental is for one week. That one week can be expanded by paying an additional fee which is why I ordered a 12 instead of a larger one. I could have gotten more stuff in the first one but I gave up on day 6.

A rainstorm and two failed drains had us getting some demolition done in the parents' basement, including a dumpster. The guys gave me a roll of blue painters tape and said to slap a piece on anything else we wanted thrown in. I went to town! Then I hauled stuff from the garage. Then my husband and I cleaned out the shed. That dumpster was filled to the top! It's amazing how much unusable junk you can accumulate.

There were only two things that made me sad to toss: two chairs that had been in the garage for 30 years. One was a slipper chair, its 70-year-old upholstery still intact. The other was a just-right-size comfy chair by Baker. When I pulled a box away from it, there was a mummified chipmunk!

The other things I felt bad about tossing was anything metal. I know a guy who would pick it up, but he wanted the lights removed from the tanning bed and I couldn't get them out. And then I started gaining momentum, and I slapped a piece of blue tape on it to go in the dumpster.

It feels so good, and a reminder not to save junk "just in case".

Hallngarden- Have you listed it for free on Craigslist? I never have a problem getting rid of things when they're listed for free.

How do you get the stuff in there? Those sides look pretty darn high.

LALA, I plead old age for not listing on Craigslist. Think I will get my son to list. It’s a great piano and it’s a shame to toss it. We have owned since 1940 and it’s as great as it was 80 years ago. Thank you, will take your advice.

When we did a remodel 2 yrs back, we had one of those for the demo. It was a opportune time for us to pitch unusable items.

Well, took forever to figure out how to get the stupid door open. Watched some youtube videos but this dumpster was quite a bit older than the ones on the video and so didn't quite match the video. Finally a friend, who came to get my old mower, weedeater and chain saw, asked a passing neighbor to help and he got it open. My daughter wanted to eat first before working so we made burgers and corn on the cob on the grill. Finally started working, moving my daughter's stuff out of the way to get to her old chair, ottoman and couch that was being stored in my livingroom. As I was moving stuff I got a massive cramp in my leg. Finally had to go take a hot shower until the water turned cold. The cramps were in one leg, then the other, then each feet.

It went on for 3 hours or more. Took some No cramp pills, magnesium, drank lots of water, walking, nothing worked. I was in tears and all the while everyone else was working. My daughter finally came in my room to check on me and offered help, water, Tylenol and helped put pain ointment on my feet when it was only my feet cramping. She made an ice water bath for me which I thought was helping but then thought it was making it worse. Her girlfriend suggested it since that's what she did after soccer practice in high school. Finally she offered some alcohol (Fireball Whiskey) and I don't drink but by then I was okay with just about anything. It didn't make the pain stop but it made me not care as much. So, have been drinking Fireball Whiskey in coke and straight up all evening long. Well, not that much, two shots and then a shot in coke. The cramping has finally stopped. I was able to clean up the dishes from dinner and fold towels I had in the dryer from earlier but that's about it.

They're all coming back tomorrow and hopefully it won't happen again. I get cramps all the time while hiking or working in the garden all day but I hadn't really done anything today. I did have a CT yesterday and was NPO the night before. I probably didn't drink a whole lot yesterday evening at work and so probably got dehydrated.

Oh and if you're wondering why we had Fireball Whiskey here, I asked my daughter to pick up some Bud Light for my friend's husband because he helped me with my car battery the other day, as a thank you. So they picked up some other alcoholic drinks for them and my friend to drink and some coke and Stok iced coffee for me.

Be prepared for neighbors to add things to your dumpster. People can’t seem to resist. Good luck with your clean out. I got 2 dumpsters when I cleaned out MIL’s house, a small one for expired or freezer burned food (1 week rental) and one big one like this for household goods. I kept finding cats inside. Make sure animals can get out!

One more suggestion for a player piano -- an old folks' home. Retirement communities like to offer music as an enrichment.

Ouch! I have had problems with cramping caused by dehydration at night. Drinking a Gatorade helps. I'd also try bananas and Rolaids.

At least the kids can help. I spent several months decluttering and cleaning and getting the honey do list done until everyone came home for the pandemic. I was planning on going through my attic and cleaning out the things we don't want or need in April. I took over my ds's bedroom for my volunteer project and he took over the rooms in front of the attic so I don't have any place to lay things out. I'm happy for you that you can get it out and be done with it. Our trash service has asked that we not add extra trash by doing major house/garage cleanouts and landscaping.

Just reading about your cramps makes me hurt. I het them in my hands and feet sometimes, mostly annoying and not real,painful. When they hurt, they hurt very much!

Thank goodness I am the type of person who purges periodically, so I hope I don’t have to face a big clean out in my house. My mother’s house, as I have mentioned, is another story. She tends to hang onto stuff plus she volunteered in a hospital thrift shop for many years and dragged home all kinds of carp. I hyperventilate looking at her garage and basement.

Detired, that is one reason I want to get rid of things, not only because so many things have been sitting around for years unused but I didn't want my kids to have to do it when I died. Or fix the house up to sell it. When my mom died me and my brother cleaned all her stuff out of her room. When my dad died I was thousands of miles away and so my brothers had to clean out the rest of it and spend thousands just to get the house ready to sell. I know they'll have to clean some out but I didn't want tons of old junk sitting around, plus, I'm tired of all the junk. I want a clean, uncluttered garage too.

Funny the things you find. My daughter found a card given by maybe someone from our church in Arizona, or from someone my ex knew? I don't know the people who signed it. There was a $10 bill in there for Alex's "bank account". I'm putting it in a box of other things I planned to send him before.

They also found a picture from one of my son's birthday parties, my friend's son was there too and she had me send a picture of the picture to her phone (which she left at home) so she could send it to her son. Lol.

Funny the things you find stashed away. My friend cleaned out her MILs house and found a jewelry box with a feather in it. She wished she knew what memory went along with the feather. I have many small things like that. They bring back memories but would have no value to anyone else. Once I’m gone and the memory is gone, just toss it.

PS. Beware of dog walkers throwing their poop bags in there. I see that happening on my street. So rude.

Even if the piano has had regular professional tuning and maintenance, old pianos (like old cars) can frequently require substantial (and expensive) rebuilding and restoration to function properly.

I'm sure this old piano is a beauty but you may need to find a player piano enthusiast or wannabe to take it. With old player pianos, the emphasis was often more on the playing mechanism and less on the actual piano part, so it may not attract a lot of interest among regular piano enthusiasts.

We had a neighbor once who did a total gut of her house. She was kind enough to allow me to occasionally throw junk in her dumpster. It was the most freeing thing to do! I love jettisoning junk. Unfortunately, DH is the total opposite.

Just pulled two of the shutters off the house. Can't decide whether or not to toss them or clean them and repaint. They're vinyl. I was looking at the board and batton type but they have limited colors at Lowe's anyway. I guess I'll keep them and toss later.

^^^^toss them! Thinking about cleaning and reusing them ( anything) may have gotten you into this situation.

I got all the shutters off the house. Cut down the bushes in front of one window and partially on the other. Will work on the rest of the bushes later this week. The windows are going to be replaced so they have to have access.

The huge bin is about 2/3 full. My daughter's coming back later this week to go through some of her stuff and her brother's to see if there's more that can be thrown out.

Because the sunroom now has exposed broken staples I'm letting the dogs out through the garage door. There's a possum living under my sunroom!

Ok so there is AL OT more than the first post about some things your kids left behind..because that dumpster would satisfy the needs of the entire neighborhood if it were just junk left by kids!!

Lucky you to have a possum living that close. It keeps the number of ticks and other bugs down.

I would like to comment that I like the looks of your house better without the shutters. However it does make the area around the front door look smaller.

Maifleur, I feel bad for him/her, getting ready to tear the sunroom off his/her home. The shutters were awful, fading, ugly color. I'm going to put different ones up in their place, maybe.
