mysterious plant

This strange plant popped up in a bed of asters and lantana. The leaves are kind of elongated like asters, but the plant is on a FOUR FOOT stalk, and my asters are barely a foot high. Also, the leaves on this beast are very coarsely serrated, which the asters are not. You can see that serration in the second picture below. I am near a pretty wild riparian area, which has a host of amazing plants, but I don't think I've EVER seen anything like this one. What is it?
