I just pulled one up out of a bed yesterday, I get a few every year.

I’ve always known them as Horseweed, Conyza canadensis (had to look that up!).

I’ve gotten these plants confused with others at times, so the experts will have to verify if I’m right or not. :)

You are indeed right (even though it's known as Mare's Tail around here).

I think you have Solidago which doesn't have a hairy stem. It's the Conyza/ Erigeron that has the common name mare's tail.

Thank you, everyone. That looks to be it. I gather that it is even edible, and is a common foraging target. It sure does look like a horses tail. One giveaway, I guess, is the hairy stalk. I guess those hairs weren't visible in the pictures, but the stem definitely is covered with fine hair.
