Hard Days Night for Opening

Several daylilies were blooming today, but most didn't care for last night's low temps.

A Little Night Music ffo - This one opened pretty well. Only one petal didn't lay flat.

Jungle Queen didn't have any problems.

Bluegrass Shadows opened well, but slugs had eaten on two sepals and a petal.

Mystical Intuition and Wheel of Time had serious problems opening, and MI was splotchy and had muddy color today. My first seedling opened and it was a dog. I hope it isn't a sign of more to come. I have at least 29 seedlings that will be blooming for the first time this year.

Both Jungle Queen and Bluegrass Shadows are great colors.

I love the color on Jungle Queen, still not crazy about appliqué throats. It looks like Bluegrass Shadows will be the new hot daylily this season 😉. I sure hope you have some winners with your new seedlings. Sad to be disappointed by the first to open.

OY! These are wonderful! Saucy you actually have an artful way with your camera already. Many of the shots you took have a lot of feeling in them. For instance I love that shot of the boat at the dock peeking out from behind the willow. I love the shadow of the boat on the water. I want to go down to that dock and sit in that boat lol. I knew from looking at the pics of garden 1 that they remind you of TN...I've never been to TN but I do imagine it looking like your pics. Girl,you are just a natural-before you know it you won't be just point and clicking! That pergola by the lotus pond looks heavenly! I could imagine sipping wine there and reading garden books. hard frost last night

If what all you have are perennial and hardy annuals sprouted right now a hard freeze doesn't matter a bit. It dropped to 29 for us last night and I only had to bring in the Marigolds. Lettuce, Mustard, Broccoli, Collards (Kale in the garden), Snapdragon, Sunflower and other hardy annuals and perennials (some uncovered). Can't explain this either, but this morning I woke up to find Chinese Forget-me-Not pushing thru the surface! Mammoth Sunflower and Scabiosa yesterday...the high was only 45 degrees and it was 29 degrees at 5:15am....the high of 51 reported for today...hmmmmm LOL! I think what goes on here is that the lows don't really reach the peak until the very early morning hours.

Wow, I figure if you're in SE CT you're in warmer zone than we are (we used to live in Salem/Niantic/Norwich 20yrs ago, didn't garden then). Sounds like we had about the same temps. Been dry here too - hope we get some rain today (well, I don't need it yet, but hope you get some). Hope your beets and turnips had minor damage to the leaves and recover. Lettuce is easy to replant. Our blueberries are budding like crazy, but looked OK (as far as I could tell) yesterday. Some of the stawberries don't look so good, but that's from all winter, not just this week. They're wild/alpine so we'll see how they fare. No flowers on those yet here thank goodness.

I think the luminettes may be a good solution. Why don't you look at them. There are usually window people around who will work with you in a "free shop at home" environment so you can try them in your room during the day and see if they work for you. In my experience, seeing into a room from outside during the day is difficult as that's the way the light is going and often there are reflections from the glass. So you might want to look in from outside at different times of day to see how much exposure you have. Another alternative, which you mentioned, is a window film. They have films that have gradations of privacy so you can determine at which height the window is obscured so you can get privacy lower down and light and view up above. You could try something similar by using sheers on the bottom half of the window and exposure up above. But these looks tend to be less contemporary. You'd have to be creative about how to mount it to the window so it didn't interfere with the functioning of the doors. The slugs are horrible here with all this rain. I've even had some in the house at night around the cat food. Double Ick!......Jungle Queen is really nice. I think I sort of like the appliques or at least they are growing on me to the point I think about ordering one to see it in person. This is one of the prettiest ones I've seen with the dark outer color. The others are lovely too, but Jungle Queen is the one my eye keeps going to.............Maryl

Jungle Queen is not usually so intensely or darkly colored. It must be the cool temps, all the rain, and fertilizer this year. In a few days the highs will be back at 90 and it will be a much llighter lavender.
