empty corner in great room- help!
Comments (10)You've done a really nice job with your room. It has just the right "fullness". I would consider leaving the area empty. It's good to let a room have its empty pockets for breathing space. Intentional empty space can be a very effective design element. It's also nice to be able to stand at a window for a moment or two and gaze outside. Why not clear it out and live with it empty for a few weeks? If you find it doesn't suit you, a tall ficus or paddle leaf fig might do well there....See MoreEntrance Room/Great Room Design Help!
Comments (3)Window treatment for sure! A console & a seating bench for entranceway. May be a small partition to separate view of dining for strangers from entrance door. A conversation, reading area maybe with comfortable seating. Cozy rug underneath! A pendant above dining for that dinner ambience... A plant or two to brighten up the space. It will all fall in place, one thing at a time. Eventually you can add some wall art, DIY or from your travels or antique markets.....See Moregreat room help
Comments (18)Cindy - thank you for sharing your experience with the TV/fireplace neck & I'm happy to hear of no pain or neck strain, especially during gaming (which can be intense I've witnessed, haha). LB interior, thank you so much for your insights and drapery inspiration. We did consider lowering the mantel & the TV mount that hinges out/lowers, however, you are indeed correct, this is an intimate space, so pushing sofas back would impede the walkway spaces. lots to consider, this is why I like houuz. fresh insights of others responses, ideas, critiques and definitely experiences with the tv over the fireplace really helps! so the more the merrier and thank you! also, the cat can be moved, he's not a structural piece, despite his thoughts ;)...See Moregreat room decor help!
Comments (12)You have accent lighting for the wall above the sideboard. You determine if buffet lights might be needed AFTER you place all the family photographs. I might consider a floor lamp in the corner of the room to brighten the area. What will a mirror over the fireplace reflect? If it's nothing interesting, you're better with a canvas over the fireplace as there is so little color in the room....See MoreRelated Professionals
